Ideas for the Lost Legions - Please Close this Thread

Recommended Posts

A good place to start with the lost legions is to ask which areas of military proficiency haven't been covered yet by existing Primarchs. We have a fast attack guy, a Primarch level techmarine, a cold and calculating logistics guy, a strategic organizer, a spy, a commando, and so on. I see two things missing from the lineup, which might match well to the two missing Primarchs/legions.

  1. An Apothecary Primarch. This would be a legion that, like the Thousand Sons and Librarians, or the Word Bearers with Chaplains, specializes in Apothecaries. I liked the earlier suggestion of a Native American style culture with medicine men, though I would since I'm a Native myself. So, bias!
  2. An admiral. No existing Primarch has as their focus naval/space combat and no legion specializes in it, the closest we have are the Imperial Fists.

Any I'm missing?

Going by your observation of a lack of Apothecary primarch, one aspect of the Emperor that's often missed, yet amongst the most important especially for the Astartes, is the Geneticist. A primarch who conquered his world with tech-barbarians and geno-armies. Something I'm trying to cover at the moment. Possible ends for such a legion would include "dabbling into chaos to improve the design", "going overboard while experimenting and suddenly flesh-change", or a more insidious consequence, like what happened to the Thunder Warriors.

XI Legion:

- Ghost themed

- Precursors to the Sons of Malice (so buy into the whole anarchy shenanigans)

- Flaw in the gene seed akin to schizophrenia, making the legionnaires unpredictable (develops as they age)

- Primarch kills II legion Primarch when he and the wolves are sent to communicate with him

- Self-imposed ?extra-galactic? exile after the Primarch sees what he has become

- Some escape and become Sons of malice as above

Just an idea, so don't be afraid to be critical if needs be!

There is something in there that I had actually considered doing with my own Eleventh as well. I'll be interested to see what you do with it. :tu:

Regarding idea #1 that was my idea though I thought maybe a missing Primarch for a made legion would make sense. Though I might alter that if the crowd likes it.

I do think there needs to be an apothecary heavy legion force though I was told it would cross over into Red Scorpions territory. However, my rebuttal to that is that practically everything has been done by this point (lacking Native American themed ones), and that the Scorps don't exist in 30k...so free game.

An idea to make the lost legions has been rattling around in my crazed brain for some time now either in the Heresy Era or as hangers-on for 40k. I figured this would be the place to ask about it. Just tell me what you think: whether these ideas make sense, are original, and most importantly is undertaking a project like this worthwhile?

II Legion:

- Primarch is a blank

- Unlike the other primarchs, he challenges and defeats the emperor when they first meet (because he is a blank)

- Society based loosely on Russian revolution

- Primarch killed because he wanted more equality between Imperium and the xenos

- Grey and orange scheme?

XI Legion:

maybe like the librarius, they can have a special unit of blanks

Always believed No. II was Elvis incarnate, imagine it. Ruling a planet, calling yourself "The King" then some bozo comes along calling himself "The Emperor" (Who shares a fondness for white, gold and jewels.) and starts trying to boss you about. Makes sense to me!

...and that's why he left the building msn-wink.gif

Just thought I would get ideas on potential rules for II (much of this is based on the culexus, would people mind clarifying whether these rules are similar?) :

WS 7

BS 5

S 6

T 6

W 6

I 6

A 4

Ld 10

Sv 2+

Special Rules:

Primarch, preferred enemy (psykers), bulky

Sire of the II legion:

Feel no pain. All friendly models with Legiones Astartes (II) gain Feel no pain (6+). If the Primarch dies, all friendly models with Legiones Astartes (II) gain Feel no pain and Fearless.

Psychic supressant: All blessing and maledictions within 12" inches immediately cease to effect. All psykers within 12" inches suffer -3 Ld, may not generate extra warp charges and can only harness them on a 6+. He may not be targeted by any psychic powers

Wargear:

Psyk-out grenades (2 shots)

God's hand:

Str x2, AP 2,

Unwieldy

Concussive

Blade of the Pariah:

Piercing blow (ignores armour saves on to wound rolls of 5+)

Psy-bane (not sure about this one, either to hits of 6 are str D, may reduce attacks to one for str D, or gains str D against psykers. Which should it be?)

Black mantle:

2+ armour, 4+ invulnerable

What do people think? Points cost? Thanks for looking smile.png

Side note: I am going to be in Canada for the next three weeks, but I'll try to keep up with my threads

Well, I'm of the belief that Sigmar is one of the Lost Primarchs...

Perhaps a golden armoured Legion?

As for the other one, something with a Samurai or Middle Eastern influence. A sand based Legion, or something with decorated armour and Katanas?

I love Primarch ideas, it's always so much fun. If you want my input feel free to ask!

Custodes Already gotcha covered since theres 10k of them during the Heresy :p

A blank Primarch just doesn't work.

All the Primarchs are titanic feats not just of genetic engineering and surgical alteration, but of sorcery and soul crafting, "luminous beings, not merely this crude matter" if you will.

The Warp and sorcery are integral parts of their beings. A "Blank Primarch" is like saying "a square triangle".

It can't exist.

Well, they weren't technically a Legion.

Imagine Golden Tanks, flyers, Dreadnoughts.... :-)

I might run with a middle eastern theme on my XI, I don't think it has been done much. Also, I am now in Canada on holiday, so expect me to be less diligent in updating this log.

Could do something like the Sassinids :)

Or you could do the Israel theme and have a Mossad...those guys are scary.

Just an additional though; what if the primarch was not designed as a blank, but it became one due to the meddling of the chaos gods or some unexpected mutation (like sanguinius's wings).

Also, referring to the earlier primarch rules, what do people think a points cost should be?

Fluff for the death of II is in progress.

A Primarch's power flows from his soul. His essense as intricately engineered using advanced warpcraft as his body is using advanced genetics.

Why do you want the Primarch to be a blank? Are you suggesting something similar to a build your own Praetor? I guess that could definitely work on the tabletop but you should really invent a good back story and persona :-)

I have both backstory and persona for the Primarch, fear not! The Primarch being a blank is fairly central to parts of this story (e.g. The Emperor sending Russ and XI to bring him back into compliance as he fears the psykers of the custodes and even possibly himself would struggle against the blank-heavy II legion. This decision indirectly leads to the deaths of both II and XI.). I could change the fluff, but the main reason for me sticking with him being a blank is that I am stubborn enough for all the mules of the world to worship me as their god.
