That is a nice looking turret! It will look better with the smaller assault cannons.  I cannot wait to see some final products. What material are you printing with?

Polished strong and flexible. It won't have the detail of FUD, but it also won't cost $30 per turret.

Chaplain and mixed armor marks on a sergeant with combi-grav:

I decided to change up the list. Instead of 8 grav-cannons, it will be 8 missile launchers with flakk in the devastator squads. This also gives me enough points for a 6th lascannon in the tactical squads and grav-pistols on the chaplain and company master.

That's a change for the worse I'm afraid. Missile launchers lost a lot of tank killing power because of being only AP3. The flakk option also doesn't make them that better at flyer hunting.

I already have 10 relentless grav-guns and 9 lascannons. Grav-cannons max out at 24" and drop to 12" if you try to make them mobile. I needed more long range firepower, and the added boost to anti-flyer is just a bonus. I can use missiles to go after light/medium vehicles and troops, leaving lascannons and grav-guns to do their jobs.

Are flyers such a big problem? Do you face regularly 2+ flyers?

If you're facing only one flyer usually, it's better to focus your firepower on the ground, that's where the battle will be won. The firepower of 2 full devastator squads directed at a flyer can be much more devastating focused against ground targets.  If you take the flakk as just a bonus then don't go half way... invest in Plasma cannons or more lascannons. Plasma cannons will kill infantry and will still get light/medium vehicles plus thy have the precious AP2.

But they also overheat, only have a 36" range, can't overwatch, and grav-guns will do much more than the plasma cannons will. I don't want to buy any more lascannons and I've used plasma cannons ad nauseum. There are already 14 grav-pistols, 10 relentless grav-guns, 8 comb-grav guns 6 lascannons and 14 twin-linked assault cannons. Missile launchers are the tactical flexibility I want at the range I need. They are not the lynch pin of my army, but a supporting force.

I have most of the veterans completed. I had to convert them from plasma pistols to grav pistols. Sadly, the grav pistols are right arm only, causing a bit of difficulty in the conversion process. I need to dig up enough bitz for the final veteran.

I finished up the 6 tactical sergeants with combi-grav guns:

Fair play for tackling a fully-mechanised 5th Company project all in one go!

I started a similar project but only got as far as the purchasing stage (and painted just four marines... sad.png ), so I wish you all the best in your epic endeavour here.

It looks like you're off to a good start, but the picture above was something I wanted to mention; the combi gravs look pretty rough. I'm sorry to say that, because I appreciate how much work and money has gone into them, but the joins just don't look as good as your other work here. I'd be tempted to just use the newer-pattern combi grav bolters, or to add the grav nozzles to a Tigrus combi bolter. Anyway, not to be a negative critic or anything, I just wanted to make a suggestion that I think will improve the appearance of your efforts! ph34r.png

New update - I have almost all the marines finished. I haven't completed the master yet, and I'm deciding whether I should make another chaplain that is armed with a combi-grav gun so HQ fit better with the command squads. My phone decided it no longer wants to sync with my computer, so pictures will be delayed. I can probably start painting next weekend.

It's an issue of resources. Even if I extended the budget for this project, I'd still have to track down those parts. Special character bitz and anything with grav tends to be pricey and harder to find. I got a pretty good deal on these. They're also on bolters from the BaC set, so they have a pre-heresy look to them.

I've finished painting 6 full tactical squads and 2 veterans squads:

Working on non-fuzzy shots, but this is about half of the infantry for the company. There are still 10 devastators, 10 command squad veterans, 10 assault marines, a chaplain and a master to finish. Plus 12 razorbacks (of the 14 that will eventually be fielded).

Still working on images, but my phone is ready to be replaced.
