corai
So, hobby butterfly that I am, I've started yet another power armoured project! The Emerald Knights are a DIY knightly chapter inspired by Arthruian mythology and will have their in depth Index Astartes article finished soon. I'm using them as my entry in the Tabled Podcast DIY Chapter Challenge and hopefully I'll scrape 1000 points together in time to get them to Council of War this year. Having done loads of marines in the past, I thought I'd challenge myself with the modelling a bit more this time and true scale the whole army. It's taking a long time but I've managed to scrape the first few models together. My test model, a regular bolter brother http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%206_zpshpklrwyd.jpg and a scale shot with a regular scale marine to show the added height and bulk from the conversion http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%207_zpshp8ihtfp.jpg For an immediate change of pace I also tried to build my first honour guard Emerald Knight. I'm really happy with this guy but given the amount of conversion work, glad I only need 5 of them! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%201_zps0msyn1xf.jpg I didn't want to have them all with tabarded torsos though so have also been playing around with some regular chest plates in conversions visible in the background here behind my Honour Guard test model http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%208_zpsxib1rthn.jpg Finally for today I finished my first sergeant for the tac squad/crusader squad. And yes, since taking the photos I noticed his gun had no grip so have fixed that! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%202_zpslotc5urm.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%204_zpsy2trgvtm.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%205_zps6zu9errb.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Corai/ek%203_zpsrhrv3jrg.jpg There's a handful more on my painting desk in various states of assembly awaiting some bitz orders but I think I'm getting faster at the conversion work. I'm looking forward to painting them but since there's such a small number needed in 1K points I want to try and assemble the bulk of the knights first. Acez
Great start to your true scaling. The models have a great medieval feel, and your Knights look true to the name. Look forward to seeing more conversions. Hm74
Loving these!...do you buy the true scale as part of a kit?..would you mind sharing where from? corai
Thanks guys! Loving these!...do you buy the true scale as part of a kit?..would you mind sharing where from? HM The True Scale parts are all Forgeworld or GW parts (although I have bitz ordered some stuff from ebay which is the darker coloured resin leading me to be a bit suspicious of their legitimacy) There's very little sculpting involved, it's just about selecting the right parts. In a nutshell, the basic marine is: -legs of a Cataphractii terminator (I sculpt the tabard over the pteruges that are on the model but for none knightly marines the pteruges/kilt are probably fine) -rear torso of a grey knight terminator with the psychic hood removed and the rear vented section filed square to allow for the backpack -front torso from wherever you want. The tabarded ones are Deathwing Knights but power armoured chestplates fit fine as well. They're a little narrower which leaves a small gap in the armpit when arms are added but this is easily filled with some sculpted ribbing -arms are regular power armoured arms -add the head (important to do this before the next step) -add the shoulder pads. you may need a blob of GS under them to help position so they look nice. Its important to have the head in already or something the shoulder pads can make the head seem really sunken into the chest, that way you can slide them up or down the arm as needed to have them look nice. -finally make sure to have some grenades, pouches etc on hand to cover any unsightly joins betweenthe torso and the legs to save you having to sculpt anything there! Hope this helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310452-emerald-knights-true-scale-diy-marines/#findComment-4109952 Share on other sites
HardCoil
I like them a lot, they look very well proportioned and battle-hardened.. Thanks for the parts list! corai
Looking forward to seeing them painted, any thoughts on colour scheme yet? I'm thinking a metallic green armour (similar to how I did the red of my blood Ravens and Yellow of my Fists but with Green instead) with cream tabards, cream shoulder pad fields and gold detailing. Need to do a test marine first though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310452-emerald-knights-true-scale-diy-marines/#findComment-4110719 Share on other sites

Commissar Molotov
A really interesting approach to true-scaling. I like the combination of bits you've used. They do work rather well. I know I've definitely saved a few pics for inspiration.
