+++THE RAVEN GUARD, 7th CHAPTER.+++

THE PALE NOMADS, THE OLD LEGION, THE OUTCASTS.

"The galaxy needs no liberation, it needs domination".

- Iskandar Rhin, champion of the 7th Chapter.

The 7th Chapter of the raven guard legion are an outcast chapter, exiled from their parent legion by their own primarch who deemed them to be too violent, too tribal and too tyranical. Most of the 7th chapter are terran veterans from the Xeric tribes and followed their primitive customs. A century of war in the galaxy has touched many of the chapters veterans with a darkness from which they have never recovered. When the legion was purged of their terran officers, the 7th chapter was fighting near the Ghoul Stars. This absence meant that the terrans remained in command of the 7th.

Soon afterwards, they were engaged in a conflic that required the extermination of the human population. They brutal and bloody outlook on war went against everything Corax believed in. He reprimanded Alaster Fauh, the commander of the 7th chapter, and exiled the entire force to fight in the darkness and most unexplored areas of the galaxy. This led to anymosity between the legion and the chapter. They repainted their armour in a dull bone white and kept their tribal ways, they renamed themselves as the Old Legion, the Pale Nomads. Far from most imperial worlds and armies, their supply lines are few and far between leaving them with mostly older marks of power armour and has forced them to adapt to tactics that allowed for as few casualties as possible, often engaging in terror tactics to crush the enemy before blades were even drawn.

And so it is, that a small group of survivors of the massacre came upon the black battle ship of the Pale Nomads, the Lady of Midnight and fought with them for 4 years of the heresy, raiding and marauding traitor supply lines, forge worlds and recruitment and communication stations. Nobody knows what happened to the Pale Nomads after the horus heresy ended. Some say they were exterminated, others that they were lost in the warp. A small group of astartes believe they are still fighting in the edges of the galaxy, bringing the domination of the Imperium upon the savage worlds in the void.

So, that was a bit of backgroud. Its not excellent but I think you can see where Im going with this :) Now, I will repost the pictures I had in the other thread, but with a few added details. He is now weathered, battle damaged and his base has been finished. I also have 4 other marines Im still mounting (no pictures yet, sorry). So here you go:

Thank you guys! Im preparing the rest of the squad for priming. I will have some pictures up tomorrow :)

BTW, what do you think of the weathering. Im not used to doing it (I have always been going for the clean look)  so any suggetions are appreciated.

Think the Weathering is fine though it could do with a bit more definition? To me, right now, it just looks like smears. Not so much caked mud and/or other substances that have had time to dry and cake in certain areas.

But thats just me :p

The weathering isn't horrible, but honestly I'd keep these guys clean. The first one you showed us looked very striking with the bright coloration. Didn't he have a design on his right pauldron as well?

I was thinking about keeping them clean, but then again the weathering makes for a more realistic feel. Im a bit undecided.

He has the raven symbol on his left pauldron and the tactical icon on his right (the half circle).

Well, I still need practice with weathering :P Its all about practice.

Well, if you've got Typhus Corrosion and a Light-Brown paint, you could probably easily apply Typhus then Drybrush the Grit when its dry in a lighter color.

Kinda like how I did my destroyers but using Light Gray instead to simulate chemical Ash.

Well, I have typhus corrosion so I can surely give it a shot. Thank you slips!

Also can we get a tutorial on those Polynesian lines good sir?

We'll of course, although there is no real secret to it. The trick is to buy a 0.2 pigment liner, which is excellent for this kind of details since it gives you way more precision that you could get with a brush. You then paint the first line, in this case the central line on his knee pad was the first. Afterwards you just can just go ahead and follow that pattern, let your imagination do the work smile.png

I thought he had a tribal design on his right pauldron originally.

Oh right! Yes, he did have a small polynesian design on the pauldron but I did not like how it looked so I removed it.

Got a picture of the sergeant and the next marine in the squad. Now Im not entirely ready to paint the sergeant since Im considering doing some light modelling on him. I have been looking at both polynesian warriors and aztec, mayan warriors to get some ideas and I want to try and add a knife hanging across his chest as well as some sort of tabard as well as doing a bit of sculpting on his helmet.

Here is my train of thought on social and historical inspiration on space marines: Never overdo it! Lets say for example space wolves: Its okay to add a bit of fur, some totems and long hair to the marines to show the society from which they come BUT we need to remember they fight for the Imperium which in itself is inspired by Rome/ancient greece and these are space marines, futuristic super soldiers. I really dislike space wolves because GW has made them over the top cartoonish.

With this I want to say my marines will have quite bare armour, but there will be a few elements of these primitive cultures in the way of tribal markings (of course), top knots and interesting hairstyles, trophies and the like, but without being over the top.

Anyways, enough jibber jabber, here is the picture:

That moment when someone uses the same Chapter as you and your fluff is woefully inadequate. But it is... Decently similar to yours.

I will take that as a compliment :D

Just a thought the anvil industries tomahawk might fit your axe theme as a more brutal look, or even chainaxes

Is there any doubt about chainaxes? :P I will definetly be adding some since they are reminescent of the polynesian shark toothed weapons. I actually dont want too many (or any) broad or long swords. I only want chainaxes, and chainswords, because both have that toothy look; power mauls and power axes. And of course lightning claws and power fists.

I will have to take a look at those tomahawks.

Ahem, not to be a Nazi but it's properly pronounced Maya not Mayan. I did a year of study on them (admittedly in 5th grade as part of a kids MENSA sort of thing) and we commonly screw it up by calling them Mayan when their people are called the Maya. smile.png

Hey, everyday we learn something new, so great :) I have always thought it was Mayan with an N.

The weathering... could us some work. I like the idea of where you're going with it, but it looks too dark and randomly clumpy. You might try using thinner paint and more layers to build up a darker tone where you want the dust and grime to be.

It's alright man, it's just because the English try to put an "R" after words that end in an "A" lol.

FTFY.

Lol.

They're bad cheats at scrabble too...I mean who the hell sticks a u in armor? The audacity....

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled programming :P

Ahem, not to be a Nazi ot anything but...

Armour is the correct spelling, remember English is a British language and just because Americans have forgotten how to speak and spell english words correctly does not mean that those of us who still speak the queens english are cheating at scrabble

Not trying offend anyone just a fun fact
