Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
Well, this has gone delightfully off topic. On topic, I very much like the model and fluff. I am inbetween ideas for my RG force, but am enjoying the idea of a more brutal RG task force. I didnt think of returning to their earlier roots. It's a good idea and you've ran very well with it. Kriegriss
well English is a Germanic language like Italian and Spanish are romantic languages that does not mean Spanish is Roman but you are 100 percent correct Mr. Raider but back on topic I think this awesome sauce alternate colour scheme for a raven guard predation fleet is great low hanging fruit for making you're own fluffy force props Grand magnus keep up the great work Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310510-the-pale-nomads/page/2/#findComment-4112551 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
Brothers, even though I find the conversation about languages to be most amusing, lets get back on the topic. I changed the sergeants equipment, I was not entirely convinced with the axe so I gave him a chainsword instead. Im thinking about how I can decorate the sergeant, I think I have some space wolf bits lying around and I can cut off the wolf tooth totems and add them as "shark" teeth to the marines. DuskRaider
I'd think things like Power Swords would be more appropriate, due to the whole stealth thing. Try looking for Catachan Machetes, they make good Astartes blades and would work well with the guerilla warfare idea. Try looking for Catachan Machetes, they make good Astartes blades and would work well with the guerilla warfare idea. Well I was focusing the weapons on a more primitive aspect, but machete like swords is not a bad idea. However I wanted to give all marines that can carry additional close combat weapons to carry large skinning knives. The questions is where to get them. I want to use Zone Mortalis rules for the army, so I thinking about changing the bases to portray a battle aboard a large ship or a space stations, do you know of any good basing tutorials for that kind of scenario? DuskRaider
I think I saw some stuff in the Tutorial forum. As far as the weapons, check out sites like Victoria Miniatures. Most 28MM human swords would work well as machetes or knives for Astartes due to scale. Slips
Theres always the Scout CCW you could use though you'd need to separate them from the arm. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310510-the-pale-nomads/page/2/#findComment-4112612 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
I had already decided these first 4 - 5 minis would be the basic test models, both to learn how to paint the scheme and developing ideas. My current job contract ends in August so by then I will have ordered stuff from Forge World to really get into the force. MK II will be the main suit of armour for the force since it helps with the fluff about them getting few supplies, with MK IV being sprinkled lightly around the units. I alkso found some 32mm miniature sculpted bases with a sci-fi naval theme, so excellent for this force, I will be getting some of those. I was hoping to paint a bit tomorrow since its sunday, but sadly its a working day for me :( so Im not sure I wil get much done. Daemon2027
An axe can be stealthy. I mean a marine is strong enough to cut off a mortals head. Can't call put if they have no head! I like the sound of a void warfare unit, I was considering doing that but didn't want to pay for pre sculpted bases and couldn't be bothered making my own! GrandMagnus
Hey guys, remember this fellow from the march of legions: http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t373/Philip_Breusch_Magnussen/1c586d46-d255-480d-9b73-f0b82cac7005_zpsqneujghv.jpg This guys is still what I consider one of the best minis I have painted and boy did I enjoy it. I always wanted to make a small force to go with him, so while I was looking at him today I got an idea. Well two, technically. I was considering for a moment painting the raven guard in that scheme, BUT Im too fond of the bone-white armour and polynesian design to change that, so not gonna happen. However, I was thinking about at some point make an antagonist force for the ravens. And who better than the Alpha legion!? A War in the Shadows. Warships stalking eachother through the void. Saboutage, murder, raids, lightning strikes and infiltration. Each legion similar, yet diferent. While the raven guard would engange in rapid strikes, using terror tactics and brutal close combat, their appearance tribal, clad in old patterns of armour and weaponry, accompanied by some survivors of the Isstvan Massacre. The alpha legion fight from the shadows, using camouflage, infiltrating and attacking with sudden speed wearing the best and newest armour, their every movement observed by a herald of the Warmaster and his elite warriors suspicious of the alpha legions true intentions. Its an idea I like, so Im going to be working a bit around that. I will either be using zone mortalis rules or the HH: Book 3 strike force rules to plan these armies. *** But for now, ravens are my main concern. I had a bit of time today to finish the white armour of the next marine and after painting a second bone-white mini over a black undercoat I am seriously considering trying a white undercoat. EDIT: Another thought popped up, but not worth a new thread. I think considering the fluff about the 7th chapter using terror tactics the Night Lords skull helmets would look great. Putting it on the maybe pile. I have always had a thing for the vampiric (VC are my fantasy army) and necromancy in fantasy genre, so the dark theme is something I really like. I feel ya brother. I love the fists and the alphas. So my predicament is being in love with both. So my main army is going to be the VII and my zone mortalis will be Alpha Legionnaires. DimDim
I think FW just needs to stop creating interesting legions! Make some of them suck for gosh darn sake, so my wallet can rest! All kidding aside, I like the idea of an antagonist to your main force, should be interesting! Quite different from an ally for sure! GrandMagnus
Hey-ho brothers, good to see the forum up and running again. Now its been a while since any updates and sadly, no, I dont have anything new painted. Im in my last month at work and working afternoon/night shift which really leaves me without any interest in painting. But in August I will be done with my current job and I will have a few months until travelling abroad for further studying. So while the forum has been down Ive been thinking about what to do. I have always wanted to paint a contemptor but I have never gotten around to doing it because I felt that I needed to do atleast a single tactical squad first. But why? I dont know. So, Im planning on getting a contemptor for the Pale Nomads to serve as a center piece for the army and perhabs a source of inspiration to get this project moving. But then again, I need to watch how I spend my money for the next half year, so a legion army really doesnt seem like a realistic project (considering a single tactical squad of 10 marines costs close to 80 €). Two thoughts came from this: Either using codex astartes rules for the army, which would also fit the skirmish type army Im going for since its smaller and more manouverable, OR converting these pale nomands into an unknown founding (2nd founding, succesors or survivors of the heresy) chapter in 40k, thus cutting the price a bit down. But the idea for an army makes me nervous, because I have such a long list of failed projects and it feels like a waste, it makes me hesitate and makes me look more towards display pieces, such as the magnificient sculpts from studios such as Scale75 (of which I have one, which has been standing half painted for 4 months and is just taunting me), Romeo Models and Pegasu Models. So, just wanted to let you guys know I have not forgotten about this, but there is a lot on my plate and I will be back. With some luck I might get another mini painted as I have been looking at some tutorials on how to paint bone armour and worked a tiny bit on one of the minis.
