Vigilator ideas

Recommended Posts

Something I did for one of my Reaver Squad members might work for a leader pose. It's not very action-y, but stick him on a suitable piece of terrain and it could get across a vigilator in pose at least.

Obviously you'd want more ornate armour, perhaps cloak, and the right weapons

his equipment is a power axe, bolter and boarding shield. I want the lord executioners axe. it is the pose I am unsure about. I have to decide between him sniping and using the shield for support, him charging with his axe in hand and his bolter on his back or him with bolter in one hand and the axe in the other. The sniping one seems more in character, but I'm not sure.

well :cuss he can't. slips had told me that he could take one but I should have checked. I still don't understand why he cant get a combi weapon. Ok so Instead he will have a similar pose to the sniping vindicator assassin, but he will have his axe on his back and will be crouching.

Primarily, the Vigilator is not an assassin. He is concerned about stealth, but only to the point of placing his front and rear sight posts on his designated target. Stealth is the tool, not the task.

Vigilators are headhunters and carnage-makers, cold-blooded killers who will chase until their prey either collapses or turns to fight. You can, of course, model him to give off that stealthy side, but it's not necessarily the only way to approach them. A Vigilator of the XII Legion, for example, may choose to mount his squad in a fixed wing airframe, and conduct Air Assault missions into the heart of the enemy camps to gun down everything that has a pulse. A zero stealth, rapid shock assault is just as viable a tactic to put down a command team, as a low profile, nil-footprint stealth mission.

To this end, chocking him full of explosives, knives, linked bolters, and belts of scalps could be just as legit as chemoline and a suppressed bolter.

To build off of what Hyaenidae described, I'm building a VII Legion Vigilator who commands a Jaeger Detachment, which is a combined force of Raiders, Sniper Teams, and Seekers. They are my company's 'Skirmish Line' adopted from the Pre-Primarch strategic doctrine of unification, when the VII Legion's shock companies would need to move quickly over no mans land. Raiders are trench clearers, Seekers destroy OPs/CPs, and the Snipers provide cover during their assaults.

I love the juxtaposition of a Reconnaissance Unit in Mark 3 with Shotguns jumping into a trench. It really shows the variability of the HH list, even in the same squad types.
