Volt
I don't plan this immediate, but this is for future knowledge. Does anyone know if you can properly cannibalize helms from Fireforge miniature's Teutonic Knights to fit on Space Marines, or any other alternative heads? I plan on buying helmets from Puppets of War, but I really want some of the crests on the Teutonics for my Dark Angels. Also some other questions- 1) How easy is it to cut metal? I've only dealt with plastic, never purchased metal miniatures. How hard would it be to take one of these 28mm metal Teutonic heads and grind down the neck to use on on Black Knights/Sammy-Counts-As? 2) Is it feasible to use Brett Knight heads from WHF on Space Marines? Edit. I knew I messed up the spelling of my title, I just knew it. Gak. Ironwulf
I can't speak for the Fireforge minis specifically, but in other respects- Cutting metal for these conversions, I heartily recommend that you get a jeweler's saw and blades. Maybe a "razor saw" too. These work exceptionally well for metal, resin or plastic. Here's a good video tutorial on how to set up your jewelers saw. The first 3 minutes are what I think are most important. (Although he recommends the use of Bur Life for a blade lubricant, I can't speak to it's usage…) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjq-oLz1ANQ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310777-quick-question-for-canibalizing-minis/#findComment-4115979 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
For those heads, I would cut the neck off entirely, with either a razor saw or clippers, then replace the neck with a PA-neck-like-blob of greenstuff (no sculpting as it will be mostly hidden). Then once the GS is cured, pin and glue it in place for added strength. geektom
^ I second what Grot said-- when in doubt, always cut lower than you need and whittle down, from there. Neck pieces, armor are pretty easy to greenstuff, compared to damaging the head accidentally by trying to cut too close to it.
