Dantay VI
Read A Thousand Sons Chapter 7. Magnus discusses the Wolves & their creation with Ulthizzar, Ahriman, Phosis T'Kar and Hathor Maat. However it is not clear where Magnus came by this information, if it is from his travels on the Great Ocean, it could be a mis-direction by Tzeentch... It also does not say that the Wolves are genetic failures of the gene wroughts as they tried to adapt man to live on Fenris, he implies the Wolves were brought to Fenris and adapted. As for the humans, he also implies that the Canis Helix was not initially designed as a primer for turning men into Space Wolves but it served another purpose, probably a modification to help humans adapt to Fenris. Wulfen and Wolves are 2 very separate beings as far as I am aware. Wulfen being failed aspirants and humans who could not control the wolf inside them. Magnus is very coy.... Which n a way is good as it will allow others to explore the origins more fully. Also if Lionel can live in the forests like an animal, Ferrus, gain his iron hands by holding a dragon/ serpent of living metal in a lake of magma, Angron kill a host of Eldar sent to kill him as an infant, Vulkan is a perpetual etc... Why would it be so hard for it to be accepted that as a young child Russ was initially raised by a she-wolf? Not sure of the source, maybe the older codex, but during a particularly harsh winter a pack of wolves attacked a settlement or food store on Asaheim,as they were starving & desperate. The Kings men fought the wolves off and as the pack was killed off they found a young man standing over a dead female wolf protecting her corpse from the guards. He was peppered with arrows but refused to leave her side. The guards prepared to attack but the King halted them seeing it was a man not an animal standing over the she-wolf. The king then took Russ as his son and raised him to adult-hood, where Russ would eventually succeed his adopted father as King. Alongside Russ were Freki and Geri, the only 2 wolves from his pack which survived the raid.
