GrandMagnus
The regular contemptor dread* from forge world appears to have an aquila on its collar. Now I have seen a lot of those minis without the aquila so my question is wether that is something optional or is it sculpted? http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/DefaultFW/xlarge/contemptordflt.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310966-contemptor-question/ Share on other sites
Aqui
On both my regular Contemptor and Relic, they have the Aquilla as part of the original sculpt. I think it might be that some modellers decide to remove it. GrandMagnus
Hmmm thats a bit annoying. I would not dare try to remove it in case the model get ruined. Carlson793
'Ruin' would be to cut the body in half diagonally - not likely to be accidentally done with a solid chunk of resin like the Contemptor. 'Unintentional battle damage', now that's the more likely result. Just turn any gouges or nicks into battle scars. Or, as will be the case with the basic Contemptor I just received, cover it with some etched brass or other markings (I wonder if the modeler who created that body sliced the model and covered it up with those purity seals...). infyrana
I'd remove it, like many seem to. Better still, just buy the Death Guard variant, it looks much cooler. But if you are looking for a 40k model, this original is much nicer and smooth in looks, but I prefer it without having to splatter gold on wings like some parade gloss ready for guarding the palace halls during down time. Take off the shiny and give it some nice battle damage :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310966-contemptor-question/#findComment-4120267 Share on other sites
Kizzdougs
It's pretty easy to remove. All you need is a sharp knife, file, and fine grade sand paper. It's even more strait forward if you're planning to put some other type of iconography where the aquila used to be :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310966-contemptor-question/#findComment-4120296 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
Well, the aquila is not that big a deal, but I was just wondering how easy it would be to get some variation in the contemptors. Im looking for a centre piece for my Raven Guard and just wanted to weigh my options :P Thanks for the answers brothers. Aaaand another question, I almost forgot to ask: Contemptors use a 60mm base size, right? Carlson793
Last bit first: yes, 60mm base for Contemptors. As for getting some variety, the whole Contemptor line has one marvelous feature that makes variety a cinch: the parts from any Contemptor are interchangeable with the same parts on any other Contemptors. This means you can have one base Salamanders model, and mix the parts of a second with, say, a slightly modified Death Guard one to create three unique models. Magnetize them (also very easy, and a must for the weapon arms) and you can mix-and-match on the fly. Kaedes Nex
Have you considered the Raven Guard Contemptor? Or is that one a bit too tribal for your RG? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310966-contemptor-question/#findComment-4121667 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
Have you considered the Raven Guard Contemptor? Or is that one a bit too tribal for your RG? Im not fond of the Raven Guard contemptor. I am going for a mix of legion and tribe vibe, but I prefer to add my own tribal markings. Guest yarickkl
Ive never used a contemptor, but i think that a ranged option could be useful. Just match the ranged with his cc capabilities: this means antitank/monster Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310966-contemptor-question/#findComment-4121941 Share on other sites
