Scribe
A question. Can you drybrush the Mars Earth technical basing paint, or does it just crumble away? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310981-greetings-adepts-of-the-omnissiah/ Share on other sites
CommodusXIII
I haven't tried Martian Ironearth, but I have done a lot of work with Agrellan Earth. I'm pretty sure that it's fairly similar, just a different color. Drybrushed, it takes the appearance of dried mud smears as if you tried to wipe boots off with a newspaper. Battybattybats
Undercoat/paint the base first before putting the crackle on, the crackle paints hold better to a layer of paint than to raw plastic, so if anyone does have crumble or flaking problems it may be that they used it straight over plastic. Vel'Cona
Exactly what Battybattybats said, I made this mistake (applying Martian Ironearth over base plastic) and it flaked away very badly. Make sure to choose a roughly complimentary color to the Ironearth (I like Mephiston Red since I have a ton of it) and you should be fine. If you do this, Ironearth will take very well to both washing and drybrushing. Even better, if you want to add some accent pieces such as rocks, skulls or rusty machinery, the Ironearth will sort of "flow" around these pieces, making them appear to be slowly getting covered by dried earth. It's an impressive effect and not hard to achieve!
