Do we use librarians?

So I've not seen many lists utilizing the librarian consul.

I'm considering one for my sallies but I'm wondering if it can be Used competitively and still work with fluff.

So has anyone done this and made it work with their legions?

I've used a Librarian with my Imperial Fists (the Thousand Son I painted up for March of the Legions) with a Void Shield Harness (WHICH I FORGOT I HAD ONE TIME). He's very Binary. Either he does a lot or he does Jack.

One time, he aided the Templar he was Attached to to survive Myrmidon Secutors and Attached Magos' Fire power (the 4+ inv. Power) and permit them to Wipe them out in Combat only to die Horribly afterwards due to a Melta Shot exploding the Harness and killing him in the Process (DAMN YOU DICE GOD!).

The other time, he Killed 7 Volkite Culverin Marines with Psychic Screech after lowering their LD with Terrify only to die to return fire after tanking ~17 Shots on his Artificer Armor.

The only downside to Legion Libbies is they have to roll all their powers on the Same Tree and are kinda limited by Max ML2.

Fluffwise, How did I justify it? Couldn't, really, since Dorn Locked them all up on the Phalanx :P He'd have to be a Thousand Sons Envoy for it to actually work -- good thing I painted him as such!

well I would say that pre Nikea it's all good for anyone except maybe death guard to use librarians and then I guess alot of legions did not use them again until they either turned traitor so didn't care or had to reinstate them to combat the traitor sorceries so there is really a relatively small window when cannon sais you cannot use libbies but you can always just say that the at astropathic choir call informing you not to use libbies got lost in the warp

I am 90% sure that legion librarians are able to purchase ML3. Otherwise I agree with everything Slips said.

I have found librarians to be big force multipliers when you are engaging in marine on marine violence since even a small shift in power can pay dividends, but they are more of a risk than say a Chaplain who will *always* provide fearless and hatred.

They Can't purchase ML3 sad.png FAQ said so.

Edit: not the FAQ, Its LA:CAL "Must Take up to Two (2) Mastery Levels...."

So they just arbitrarily dropped it from ML3 in Betrayal to ML2 in the red book?

That's dumb.

I assume it was to match the 7th ed 40k codexes where Space Marine Librarians can only get up to 2 mastery levels in the new codexes. Only Eldar, Chaos and some special characters get ML3 or above.

Don't worry, I'm sure TS will definitely go librarian crazy :)

I wanted to take one in a NL force I was planning (if I ever got the money). Librarians in Midnight Clad would be boss.

I was even considering giving him the 40k dark Angels interromancy powers considering they are largely fear based.

Have you read the story about the NL chief librarian, 'Child of the Night'?

Also your librarian could anticipate this classic art work :D

I think (or wish ?) that Legions that don't have rules yet might have strong Librarians : TS of course, but Vlka Fenrika, White Scars and even Blood angels have fluff backup for special abilities in that field. I hope for specific powers.

It is an interesting observation how all of the legions directly involved with the creation of Librarians have yet to be done.
