New HH short story - Massacre

I liked it, but for those who haven't read his NL's trilogy, it won't have much impact on you. I liked the story but......

WHY IN THE HELL ARE WE RETURNING TO THE ISSTVAAN MASSACRE?!?!

BL has already beat this topic to death, buried it, and held the funeral. Can we please for the love of God just move on to something else? Like there are 7 whole years between the massacre and Terra - I'm sure all these different writers could concoct something. I mean I love Bligh's tactical overlay of some of the battles happening, but there's little drama or writing about anything. And I don't mean the million stories written by Kyme or about the shattered legions.

As much as I agree with you in terms of the series itself, try to bear the context in mind. This isn't a Horus Heresy story that's "returning to Isstvan" and diverting the series flow. It's a free short story about the characters from the Night Lords Series, showing a little of what they were up to when the Heresy began.

Basically what I was trying to say but more eloquent and less snippy. Probably why you're the writer!

I enjoyed the first installment.  There were little elements that made me smile like the disordered pile of trophy tokens.

The Night Lords, of all the legions, amuse me the most in the fiction because they remind me of a pride of evil lions.  They work together and call each other brother but they're always trying to dominate the others.

When the HH opened up all those years ago, we had books which expanded upon the knowledge and background of the legions. People said 'i don't care how long it takes I just like to learn about the legions', and 10 years later, we are barely a year into the 7 or so years of the Heresy, and the quality of books are degraingly low with rubbish like Vengeful Spirit, Deathfire and Damnation of Pythos. BL are tsking the mickey with the 'progressive' books.

This book has singlehandedly provided more information about a legion to which we have had no previous knowledge from a first hand point of view (outside of two small shorts) in that short extract than anything else we have had in those 3 books listed above.

This is more or less what I'm getting at.

I personally liked it, but it's still like a surprise party that you know is going to happen. Like surprise! We're gonna kill 4 legions at Isstvaan!

Ok thanks for the party and all, but it's kinda been ruined by 10 years of more of the same.

I love Malcharion and want to see more of his perspective...but why not during the great crusade when he became known as the War Sage? Or why not during the actual battles of the heresy?

In other words:

1.) It's a free story. Yay!

2.) Its by one of two consistently good authors. Yay!!!

3.) It has Malcharion playing a lead role. Triple yay!

4.) It's leading up to Isstvaan. Boner killer.

Does it have potential to be awesome? Of course. Does it reflect a bit on the NLs decision to join the heresy and the hilarity that ensues (looking at you, guy who said Emps is ultimate authority)?

I guess I'm just hung up on the whole Isstvaan thing. It just feels like we are stuck and will never see what happens during the actual heresy, you know, when humanity is descending into galaxy wide chaos.

I think we can all agree with you in regards to Isstvaan.  Hopefully BL agrees and starts to give us all some juicy tender meat of the Heresy soon.

Yes.

I'd be willing to pull my foot out of my mouth and stop scheming to kill ADB's buddy Eddie to steal his Dark Angels if ADB would make a novel on Malcharion and First Claw before during and after the Heresy.

Malcharion is a bit of an oddity within his legion and it would be nice to see him in a full length novel. Even if it meant fighting my beloved Dark Angels :P

Malcharion is a bit of an oddity within his legion....

A Bit? His Primarch likened him to an Ultramarine. A Night Lord, called an Ultramarine-at-heart, by the liege of the Night Lords.

I would've giggled, if I wasn't impressed with maintaining such a mentality amongst a Legion of unstable throat-slitters. That'd be like being a former partier and recovering alcoholic hanging out at the bar with his trashed buddies, every day, and never having a sip of booze.

Guys seriously were getting more depth to characters we love so relax, we don't usually get free stuff from this company so I'm sure as hell happy about it.

And we haven't been introduced to our loving band of misfits till now so brew a coffee and kick back you god damn nay sayers

My obsession with Malcharion is only topped by Mercutian and, the untold enigma of the VIII Legion, Equerry Sheng.

How exactly does one become the Haunter's voice and right hand? I'm both terrified and curious to find out.

If he'd been killed by Alajos like he was supposed to, then we might never have known anything about him :P

...this book does come at a bad time I was making a NL's Terror list...
