Emprah2508
i have plans to use a mixed regiment with the CDF hailing from one of korvexia's moons which use cadian armour and equipment then i will get some valhallas to represent the 'snow rats' who are teaching them the art of frozen warfare Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4124111 Share on other sites

WarriorFish
Great to see you getting started Emprah You have a good idea of mixing model types, will you be using the Valhallans/Voystroyans to act as Veteran Squads to the Cadian's Platoons? The Cadian Defence Force is an excellent start (don't forget - online resellers for more savings ) and the Hydra is a good kit. You should magnetise/build the model so it can play as a Wyvern or Hydra as versatility in a model is always nice to have, plus the Wyvern is an effective unit for a low price. For the moment I'd stick to the "core" Guard units to get your army started, you can look at adding some Bullgryns later. They're better as support units so you'll need some units for them to support first! Have you settled on your theme for the army? Infantry heavy, artillery and/or tanks for example? Guard have good choices to make, but alas even we can't fit everything into a list If you want trooper heavy, some more infantry would be good. Otherwise Chimeras for mechanisation is never a bad idea and of course who doesn't like powerful Guard tanks or murderous artillery? Emprah2508
I was thinking platoons of cadian and voystroyan as vets and the voystroyan command squad as a CCS I'm thinking of massed infantry to contrast to my marines but there will be artillery/leman russ support But this won't be happening until August as I'm currently on holiday and my birthday isn't until then and I'm a skint 14 year old boy. Also the voystroyan thing might not happen as they are expensive Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4124615 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
I have merged your posts Emprah, if you have more than one thing to say please edit the latest post. Your model plan is good, also means you don't need as many Voystroyans which will help. Guard armies are slow burn anyway for the most part, so a gradual build up is no bad thing plus it gives you more time to paint up the models you have :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4124656 Share on other sites
Emprah2508
Thanks for the model advice and sorry about the post thingy. My only annoyance is the only voystroyan heavy weapon teams I can find are the lascannon and heavy bolter Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4124669 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Unfortunately as far as I'm aware only the heavy bolter and lascannons exist, but replacing them with another heavy weapon shouldn't be too hard if you can get the bits from another HWT, as the mountings should be the same or close enough. A mortar can just stand freely too if you wanted one :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4124684 Share on other sites
Emprah2508
Ok I didn't think of that what weapons do you suggest I use for a 'takes all' list Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4124751 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
For a general heavy weapon you can't go far wrong with autocannons. They are flexible, two good strength shots that can tackle transports and threaten even medium armour. Emprah2508
Ok I'm sure I can convert an auto cannon from a voystroyan heavy bolter Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4124934 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
The lascannon looks like an easy swap, you can keep the tripod and gunner's grips from the looks of it and just swap the gun :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4125018 Share on other sites
Carraigf
Hey Emprah, welcome to the ranks of His guard! Vostroyan make very cool armies, but admittedly can be pricey. I'd suggest 3rd party stores like fish said but also keep an eye on ebay, there's lots of firstborn on there, often unpainted, and as they are metal they're much easier to strip any old paint off should you find some going cheap that have a different scheme. Emprah2508
Due to me getting an early birthday present my funds have been cut short thus I shall only be getting cadians (for now ) which means from my parents I can get an infantry squad and a command team but with meet from various jobs I shall be buying a wyvern and a codex Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4126548 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Slowly but surely is the Guard way :) You may be glad for it as it means you won't have a backlog of plastic building up  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4126827 Share on other sites
SW1
Yeah ... If I was starting afresh I would by a unit at a time rather than trying to paint loads of models at once. If you can get into the painting zone loads of models works but very few people can get into it and keep there without burning out their hobby mojo. Slow and steady will generally get to a nicely painted army much quicker. Lol ... The only reason why I've managed to get my ETL vows done was to put away everything else to avoid getting sidetracked and I still did a bit!!! Emprah2508
For a copy loud scheme I was thinking about one of the three either pink armour, yellow armour or white armour but my older sister will decide for me as I asked for paints for my birthday and she said she would pick from the three above and take the base and layer paint of each colour so it's a suprise for me. For pink I shall ask for screamer pink and pink horror for yellow it will be ceremite white and cassandora yellow for white it will be celestial grey and white scar. Are these good choices Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4127070 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Pink is perhaps not the best choice... white can work very well with appropriate colours and yellow too as long as it isn't too bright a shade as you can work in some earthy/sandy tones :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4127104 Share on other sites
Emprah2508
I think pink armour and black fatigues could be cool and I don't mind bright colours ie yellow but it is all up to my sister Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311191-korvexion-1st-regiment-snow-rats/#findComment-4127140 Share on other sites
casb1965
The LRDG used pink camo in the desert during WW2, if you keep the shades subtle pink, yellow (beige or tan) and black or dark green works well as a camo scheme.
