Flesh is weak
That has become our creed
It is not wrong
Just incomplete
Flesh is weak
If the the spirit that powers it is weak

Veteran Sergeant Hestan, Third Squad, Clan Isernii, Order Primus

Last few days I have been tinkering with some bits I had laying around, mostly failed conversions and leftovers. They needed a lot of work, but it has been quite nice to just play around with bits, and to try and make some models with character. I didn't have a particular legion in mind when I started, but the Iron Hands felt right, a bitter survivor hanging onto life with angry spite. He will soon be joined by two more brothers, more will also join.

Thank you guys, I'm really happy with the way he has come out, I wasn't sure with the Chaos head would work but I think the little changes have helped.

Candleshoes and Jokaero, you guys a big inspiration for me, you have both produced some great mini I hope to emulate.

Last few days I got sucked into Crusader Kings II so not much work, I wanted to u surcoat Hestan yesterday but it rained all day so put it off till today. I want to work some more of bionic look into each model and I ordered som plastic card rods which never came, waiting for eBay to reimburse me. Also want to get some clock gears for details.

Veteran Legionnaire Manusson, Third Squad, Clan Isernii, Order Primus

I'm in two minds about adding more detail to Manusson. As with Hestan he is walking forward, I wanted to squad to have the look of being on patrol. Clan Isernii will specialise in heavy recon, siege infiltration, and holding areas against the odds.

Ok I finished this guy a lot quicker then I thought I would. Could use some touching up next time I crack the paints out, but I'm happy for now.

I think you can see the metallic effect a bit better in this shot. I was worried I went one wash to dark with the armour.

I have a few other wip builds, and started work on a Maste of the Forge, and important character, second in the clan to the Iron Farther.

Very nice! Could you post a pic of the back?

Sure thing, lights sort of against me and have just got back from a jog so hands aren't exactly steady so not the greatest pic.

KBA cheers dude, I'm just taking my time and being more careful really. Slightly worried Manusson right lower leg is to short. The knee looks really low. I may have to ignore it and make sure future models are better proportioned.

Right something different. Started painting this guy back in February, decided to finish him off yesterday.

This guy was a hell of a lot of fun to paint, I must admit I could easily paint some more Death Guard. I went a bit overboard in places with the weathering but screw it. Few bits I'm not happy with, his shoulder pads are a bit plane, I just couldn't find a way to weather them in a good way. The Legion symbol unfortunately lost detail during the weathering process, I'm tempted to remove it and replace with brass etch. Lastly I really struggled with the blade of the scyth, I just couldn't get it to look great, hence no real pics of it. I think I may carefully strip the blade and have another go.

The base was really great to paint, couldn't really get a good pic but I tried lots of different weathering on the it. I decide to mess around with realistic water on the top of the base, I tried to give it an oily finish, unfortunalty as it dried it just went black. It like the look just not quite what I hoped for.

This was a little test for me to try some new methods, I have one other model almost ready to show, which is the complete opposite, no weathering painted as smartly as I can. Well kind of.

C&C welcome.

Would love to hear your recipe on the Iron Hand's black paint job - his skin is just perfect - excellent work.

Thanks mate. The black is easy

Base coat 50/50 Eshin Grey and Leadbelcher

Medium dry brush Leadbelcher

Light dry brush Ironbreaker

Then I give the model several watered down washes. He got Nuln oil and Agrax mix, Drakenhof nightshade, a Nuln oil on its own. Depending on what colour you use you could change the effect you get on the armour.

Once dry a very light Leadbelcher dry brush on the larger armour plates

Fine highlight with Leadbelcher.

On character models I will probably do a inal highlight if Ironbreaker in places.

Awesome painting on the IH, he looks suitably battered. Nice necrotic skin, I can imagine the ad mech fluids running throught his veins.

Cool glowing eyes on the DG.

Thanks, the skin was an experiment that seemed to work. I want to go back and try and define the mouth part of the head a bit more, and the eyes as it all gets a bit lost at the moment.

Dude your as bad as me with jumping around projects.

Just don't do white Scars please let me handle them

The Death Guard urge has past, I just wanted to finish Typhus up and was then feeling the lure of them. After sleeping on it I'm going to leave them for now. I'm afraid I can't say the same for the White Scars, especially as my idea for them fits nicely with the Iron Hands!
