Sand Foxes WIP

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've recently come back to the hobby after selling my previous armies to help pay for Uni, only to pick it back up in my senior year. Since i'm now back at home I've decided to start sharing my army progress with you guys in order to motivate me to get some painting done.

The background of these guys is that they're a desert world based chapter currently having issues obtaining equipment, forcing them to scavenge and repair gear from old battlefields. I'm currently working on a more in depth backstory for them but that's the basic gist.

Pics of what I've got painted so far are below, if you've read Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive books then you'll know where I stole the names from tongue.png.

4th Company Captain Kaladin Stormblessed. Kitbashed from an assault marine and some assault terminator parts. Spear counts as either a relic blade or The Burning Blade.

Tactical Squad Moash. The first squad I painted, they came out a bit greener than I liked due to using Humbrol paints on a darker base coat.

Tactical Squad Teft. I gave these guys a Mournfang Brown Base and then Painted over with Tallarn Sand before shading, which gave me a much more solid beige colour.

Assault Squad "Bridge 4". Painted these guys In between the two tactical squads so they've got a bit of a mix of different paint styles. The blood Angel was a remnant of my previous army.

Veteran Sergeant Adolin and Vanguard vets. These guys generally act as a (very expensive) meat shield for my captain.

Dreadnought (currently Unnamed)

I haven't managed to get as much done as I wanted recently but I did finally manage to finish my "Vindicator". Since I only use it in smaller games or as an alternative for the Stormtalon I didn't really want to shell out £35 on it (plus I really couldn't be bothered building yet another rhino) I decided to convert an old £12 Hetzer tank destroyer kit I had. Its almost exactly the same size as a regular vindicator.

Once again I've been slacking off on painting a bit, but I do have some progress at last!

Drop pod for one of the dreadnoughts. I tried to make it look like something that would actually be dropped from orbit (so no chapter colours), not sure how well I succeeded though.

Rhino, not really much to say about it other than that I think I'm getting the hang of doing camo stripes.

Second rhino from ebay. I don't really wan't to repaint it since its pretty well painted anyway. I guess it's just something else my army "acquired" from another chapter.

and finally the completed centurion squad. These were a right pain to paint but i'm pretty pleased how they turned out, I'm definitely glad I left the leg armour off.

That's all for now, gonna do either the Vanguard Vets or the Stormtalon next, let me know which one you'd rather see first!

That armor plating on the rhino is awesome. I am definitely going to look into doing something like that. Scheme seems simple enough to duplicate, what kind of basing are you going to do? Also, your desert camp looks like the US DCUs from the Gulf War. Always liked those colors.

Finished painting my Stormtalon today, after being unsure whether or not to paint it with camo stripes like the tanks. In the end I decided not to since there wern't as many large flat areas.

I also moved some of the weapons up onto the wings to make it look less front heavy. Since I generally use either stormhammer missiles or lascannons I included both options.

Another view so you can actually see the pilot.

I also got my Assault termies back from a friend. I only got round to painting the sergeant since I don't use these guys that much any more. I gave the sergeant a few modifications using venerable dreadnought parts to give his Armour a more pre heresy feel (something else scavenged from an old battlefield no doubt).
