Jacques Corbin
So there is a new kid in our local club. He got Dark Vengeance, and a codex, and a good grasp of how the games play in a theoretical sense. We tend to take it easy on him, because he is still learning. He is a good sport, and learns from his defeats. Well, he faced our tau guy, and we were a bit worried. The young man was unfamiliar with tau, and our tau guy isn't the best sport. The cocky tau player declared that he didn't need to include a riptide vs a neophyte running a primarily green-wing list. He regretted that by turn 3. Highlights of the game included: -Turn 1 destruction of the Hammerhead by a tri-las predator -Deathwing termies arriving via deep strike, and using split fire to wreck a devilfish with the assault cannon, and storm bolter a pathfinder squad to death -The look on the Tau player's face as he kept forgetting that Dark Angels DO NOT break and run -The crisis suits dropped in, rolled crappy, and the crisis commander w/ drone controller got hit with mind worm next turn. The cdr and the unit's drones then fired at BS2 rest of game, and the pathfinders had been eliminated already -The MSU charge into the crisis suits to end the game. It was a command squad (apothecary, banner, plasma guns) with a PF interrogator chaplain, 3/5 of a tac squad, 4/5 of a tac squad with a force sword librarian, 1/5 of a tac squad, and a venerable dreadnought -Also priceless was the tau guy's expression when his prediction that the above assault would be a long melee was proven dead wrong. Honestly? Four crisis suits and 4 drones versus a S10 dread PF with 5 attacks on the charge, an activated force sword with 4 attacks on the charge, and then PF interrogator chaplain with 5(?) attacks on the charge. So the young Unforgiven won 9-5 victory points, and tabled the tau on turn 4. It was glorius! Fist bumps all around, and a victory cry of "FOR THE LION!!!" A few more like that, and Y'all should send somebody from the reclusiam to discuss his options for advancment. Lucien Eilam
Hmm. Let us know how the rematch goes, when the Tau player doesn't willingly handicap himself, and goes in knowing how the rules work. Amayasu
Haha, good stuff. Chaos is fuelled by the tears of tabled smug players. Well done that man. Jacques Corbin
Yeah, Lucien, I will. The young man is building some more Deathwing, and I advised building a librarian in terminator armor with a force axe. Let's see how the Riptide likes catching that axe! SvenONE
I've never met a Tau player that I liked, they seem to have a propensity to be cocky and not understand their rules very well. That game may go very differently without a riptide, and now that the Tau player's lost I'm sure he'll bring one to show everyone who's boss. But I'm just amazed that Mind Worm went off on the commander without being LOSed! Jacques Corbin
Yep, cheers rang out all over the shop. That's the tau player's thing, dropping in the crisis suits and their drones, and firing away. It was great watching the tau player's dice fail him for a change. Yeah, the young man did well and got a solid win using a Dark Vengeance+ list, but how does a tau player show us who's boss by bringing a really competitive list to a game with a 14yo that bought a starter set, and managed to add a few units using his allowance?!
