Coming back to the Guard

Recommended Posts

So, after running around like a headless chicken, I have decided that I will return to the Guard on top of my Sisters (they are basically one army). Got enough of Marines, I tell ya. What I need is Empire in space. Steampunk holy religious warriors fighting for the Emperor, Humanity and other holy things.

This is on menu:

KARL FRANZ in Punisher (because Pask is for :cuss. since my KF is detachable from Deathclaw, I will stick him in the Punisher when I play 40k)

2x Leman Russ with interchangeable loadouts

2x Wyvern

2x Basilisk

Vulture/Vendetta (I will be using the Vulture model in both cases)

The BANEBLADE with interchangeable loadout

Yarrick

Supports characters (mostly Priests)

20 Vets with their Chimeras

30 Guardsmen with various loadouts

PCS with their Chimera

My Knight with interchangeable loadout

I own most of the things above, they just need their looks adjusted to add that Renaissance steampunk feel mixed with a boat-load of Ecclesiarchal iconography and various holy things. They will be a holy order, which was created after the Age of Apostasy by merging some of the remaining Frateris Templar (before their disbandment) and a Knight House (long story, got the fluff almost done), operating from a Cardinal World.

Full on heavy metal siege warfare. Remember, Lawful Good does not mean Lawful Nice ;)

Yeah, he will be using Pask's ruleset obviously. It will be a more shiny Leman Russ with Karl Franz (the same one sitting on Deathclaw) peeking up top, swinging his Hammer and vomiting S5 at everything that looks at him funny.

I know how I will do the infantry. I will mostly be using fantasy dudesmen and their weapons (modified Handgunners are regular dudes, with increased rank they will get progressively shiny).

What I am not sure about is how to make the vehicles Empire style steampunk. That will be a challenge.

Being Ecclesiarchal, they obviously need progressively larger chappels being built on top of them as well.:D

Definitely a tune that would play when the nobility would meet :D As a matter of fact, the army itself also has a defacto theme song. I can hear that song play ever time the Yarrick blob charges, when the tanks fire their bombardment or the soldiers let out a holy fusillade. Epic!

Ooooh, well chosen! :D

I hum Ride of the Valkyries whenever I'm bringing aircraft on, as part of my mess-with-my-opponent strategy. (I have a regular player who plays Tyranids, and are games are a meta-game in themselves. I'll see him deploy his army, then deploy mine and he'll sigh as he notes I brought absolutely no tanks this time, then I'll sigh when I see everything's a Monstrous Creature.) One time I took two Vendettas and two Vultures as the answer to his triple Flyrant list, and it was highly amusing to see them potter round shooting Conscripts until the aircraft evicted them from the skies. ^_^

His subsequent list included a lot more fliers, mine was all Leman Russes.

Blood on the Roses is awesome, by the way! I never knew the name of the song and I've heard a few variations. Always cool to find the old classic behind a song.

But I think we can all agree that no song is as fitting for the Guard as the original Battlefield theme ;) I mean, after all these years, I still get goosebumps when I hear that songs and imagine an armoured gunline thundering forwards and crushing heretics as they go.

Very fitting, especially for a more WWII-oriented force!

I do personally love this song, it suits the feel of tanks and artillery crushing everything in a battle for an entire world, which is the stuff the Guard is made of. :D

Well, I am still not sure how to do Renaissance Gothic cathedral tanks :D I decided to use the Empire Cannons as my HWT. Tonight I will work on rebasing the Empire Handgunners I have, the future infantry dudesmen.

I will be getting my Baneblade box tomorrow but it will remain closed until the steampunk cathedral issue has been resolved :D
