Duke Danse Macabre
So I have decided to do some repainting on my sisters as I finish my deathwatch project before I finish painting my sisters. The painting in question is large areas of scroll work on our tanks, namely the exorcist. Now I don't expect all the text to be legible but what is the best way to paint these areas do you all find? Lucien Eilam
For the text? A Pigma Micron pen. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311627-painting-our-scrolls/#findComment-4132009 Share on other sites
Naminé
I use a pen for this too, it's so much quicker and easier then a brush. You can actually write stuff too if you wish. Wintermits
Wow I never thought about using a pen before hah! I just went crazy on my scrolls and some of my drop pods, Cool tip :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311627-painting-our-scrolls/#findComment-4132720 Share on other sites
Duke Danse Macabre
I have been doing this for a while now but is there no other tactics folks use in order to get the best results? Sith’ari
I normally paint my scrolls with horizontal streaks of watered down ushabti bone over a light brown base. You cant really tell from the pics, but IRL it looks like a bunch of faded, ancient text. Could be worth a go if you fancy something a bit different! Naminé
My go-to scroll painting technique (it's amazing how many scrolls you paint with Citadel Minis...): Paint Beige/bone Chestnut wash Highlight with same bone colour Write text with technical pen Drybrush with bone. Sith’ari
Hmmm. I've never thought about drybrushing over pen before, does the ink hold up ok? I might test it out when I get back from work this evening! Lucien Eilam
Pigma ink is archival quality, practically bulletproof. Just make sure each stage is properly dry before applying the next. KRG-23
I have those, even if I didn't try yet : http://www.staedtler.co.uk/en/products/technical-drawing-instruments/technical-pens/mars-matic-700-technical-pen/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311627-painting-our-scrolls/#findComment-4139214 Share on other sites
Lucien Eilam
The advantage of the Pigma Micron pens is the fibre nib. No risk of scratching the paint like you can with a steel nibbed technical pen, which is bad for the paint job but potentially disastrous if you clog an expensive nib with stray bits of paint.
