White Scars Upgrade Set and Shoulder Pads!

Took another look at the helmets; they certainly have a very Khitan/Mongolic feel to them. Think I may have to pick these up and try some chainmail/leather/fur GSing. :P

I've come around on the helms and have ordered a set of them, some torsos, shoulder pads, and some Mark II despoilers. Going to start practising gs fur. I'm weak. Don't judge.

I'm pretty certain they said at the last FW Open Day to expect the White Scars, Thousand Sons, Dark Angels and Blood Angels before the end of the year, whereas the Space Wolves would be a bit further off - and likely to upset anyone that likes them in 40k. Honestly, as long as they do away with the ridiculous Thunderwolf Cavalry that's fine.

Did they now? I'd heard 'all remaining Legions in the next 6 months' (back in late May/early June), and so had some hope we'd see Wolves before xmas. Not that I'd be surprised to find out you're 100% right, and Wolves get the short straw.

Shafting us again like this? I'm really starting to think FW has some major aversion to the Space Wolves.

Give it a rest?

bruh, your legion is 1 of the most sought after legion in the whole entire 30k and 40k,they got their own codex and their own miniature range in 40k.

Believe me that patience is key,for the white scars that basicly have a small following to be nailed spot on like this ( awesome looks ).Trust me FW will nail the Wolves and I believe they will look badass but patience is key here young wolf. Everything has its own time

Just from that single picture you can see the evolution of the ForgeWorld sculptng and processing over the pat couple of years:

  • MkII armour - lots of mold lines, the curved plates aren't smooth or unifom, the detail is lacking and inconsistent
  • White Scar upgrades - very clean, completely smooth and uniform, very crisp definition and great minute details

It almost makes me wish that the re-did the existing Legion armour marks (and some new MkV and kVI) and apply the same level of process / sculpting on 3D CAD that they're usig for the upgrade kis and new characters.

The level of detail on them has more to do with the affinities and/or talents of the designers themselves, as opposed to improvements in processes. It's also worth noting that not all of the FW design studio have switched over to CAD. These upgrades for instance (and those of the Blood/Dark Angels) were actually made using the traditional hand sculpting method and greenstuff.

I totally agree with your sentiment though, whilst I love the overall designs of the core armour kits, they are littered with flaws and inconsistencies and subsequently a pain to work with tongue.png.

One-Eye is going to lose his collective censored.gif .

Sure !! Very happy with these upgrades, they're awesome ! Probably one of the best set overall.

But I've just received a 500€ order cry.gif Will have to do a new one for these upgrades... and I will have to pick-up my MkIII armour to explain that to my better half tongue.png

Does anyone expect a temporary legion rules pdf to help this release along, and get players started a proper? Or are FW gonna be mean and make players wait til the next book? tongue.png

Also heard T-Sons upgrades might be ready to roll as early as September.

If what was said is true, migh tbe getting legion rules for all legion, even if only a light version so we can start adding a bit of flavour to those which have yet to feel th HH magic smile.png

On topic, Scars torsos are ace, helms are so-so, the cheek sections would make nice mandibles for someone doing a Mantis Warrior army set around the Badab War. Don't like the shoulder pads. The bar is set too high on the lightning bolt and is too skinny. If they were going to change it for 30K, so it s different to the 40K counterparts, why hasn't the artwork in the ads changed also?

@BCK, T-Sons upgrades are apparently done and could be up for release around September. As for Wolves, noi mention of where they are up to model-wise.

Would the helms with the sheek guards be of any use to you for doing Romanesque helms on your Ultramarines?
