Cap'm Heckus
That's pretty much how most folks use them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311776-scions-assemble/#findComment-4134958 Share on other sites
morroccomole
You also have to take into account how you will use them. Are you deep striking them into the soft underbelly of an armored formation? Of course melta is a no-brainer. But for all-comers lists, plasma will carry the day. It can do damage to AV14, but your scions can also save slightly better on carapace armor in the event of gets hot.I use my scions purely as marine killers, so the hot-shot lasguns are a-okay with me. I deepstrike them, and then let the opponent dictate what degree they will play in the game. WarriorFish
They're a great DS team as mentioned, BS4 melta is quite reliable this way and they can then run around causing more mischief so your opponent must deal with them. Plus with AP3 guns they can cause a threat to a variety of targets making them all the more of an issue. As morro said that AP3 is very nice so there's nothing wrong with gearing them up for that with some plasma too, for some extra punch :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311776-scions-assemble/#findComment-4135251 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
I use stormtroopers as the main body of my force. It's actually my goal to field both formations (at once, two full up platoons of them with their transports) out of the Militarum Tempestus MiniDex. They're expensive, and very short ranged, but they kill so much stuff when they shoot. My only problem with them is that since they have to get within charge range to be really effective, they have very little close combat ability. The 5th ed stormtroopers had pistols and close combat weapons, which gave them the ability to wreck whatever charged them with weight of attacks. They sorely need that back. Still they do pretty good for getting in and ripping up whatever they shoot at, I take mine with plasma mostly because it's their most versatile weapon. captain sox
I have 9 full 10 man squads, set up as this (8 are built): 1. 2 x Melta, Bolt Pistol, Powerfist (expensive but gets the job done) - These guys are pure tank killers. They drop in and kill whatever is next to them *then in turn get shot up. 2. 2 x Hot shot Volley, Vox - sit back and fire while other volley squad moves 3. 1 x Plasma, 1x Grenade Launcher, Vox - in a Taurox Prime 4. 2 x Melta, Powerfist, Bolt Pistol - same role as squad 1 5. 2 x Flamer, powersword, Vox - in a Taurox Prime 6. 2 x Hot Shot Volley, Vox same role as Squad 2 7. 1 x Plasma, 1x Grenade Launhcer, Powersword - in a Taurox Prime 8. 2 x Flamer, Powersword - Deep strike anti horde unit. Supports other units in play already. *9 2 x Hot Shot Volley , Vox, same as 2 and 6 Planning 3 more Squads: *10 1 Plasma, 1 Grenade Launcher, Vox - in a Taurox Prime *11 1 Plasma, 1 Grenade Launcher, Vox *12 1 Plasma, 1 Grenade Launcher, Vox I think the GL / Plasma is a good combo. Kinda like a smaller version of ye olde standard missile launcher. Can take care of both large creatures / light armour and a small blast for some hordes. I have 8 Taurox models currently, expanding to 12 soon. So in a nutshell: the Melta Scions are golden for their purpose, but they will be eradicated quickly. They are a huge threat to whatever they land beside. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/311776-scions-assemble/#findComment-4136538 Share on other sites
