Needs ideas: Mobile Aegis Line

Recommended Posts

I want to include an Aegis Line for my dudesmen, but I dislike having static models from a fluff point of view. While I like siege warfare, I do not picture my army as a static one. I want it to be a moving iron fortress, slowly moving up the board, unable to be contained or slowed, moving with the inevitability of death. An Aegis Line supports that idea of a moving fortress, but the standard Aegis is static. Any conversion ideas of how to make the Aegis look like it is easily redeployable? Tech is not an issue, as these guys get the best new toys anyway (or rather have the best good toys from ye olde days).

Ideas?

Hm, very good idea. However, it does not feel very HEAVY METAL if you know what I mean. And it also does not really fit into that Renaissance/Empire/Nuln theme I am going for. However, the idea of the Guardsmen throwing down a device that becomes a shield is actually very awesome. Good start ;)

How about wall sections with taurox tracks or similar attached to show the mobility.

Another option is to have vehicles ie chimera carrying the sections for deployment.

You could make up wall sections to look like the concrete wall sections with the metal hoops on the top for lifting points, a chimera with a crane or a sentinel power lifter and a flatbed vehicle for the transport.

Just a quick brainstorm.

I like the idea with the Tracks, since I will be ripping those off anyway in favour of wheels. I think that option, along with the energy shield, are the only options of representing their solid tech level but still make it seem realistic.

Widely available shield generators seem beyond the capabilities of the Imperium IMHO.

That's what I figured as well. The aegis line is supposed to be portable as is I think, but portable does not necessarily mean that a bunch of guardsmen can carry them to the front and simply drop them where they want them. They probably need transports, cranes and possibly some bolts to attach them to the ground. I'm not fond of the idea of tracked walls, because that would make them be pushed out of the way more easily.

Just look at those temporary barriers that are used during road repairs. The elements themselves don't look very portable either.

I wanna use Tau Shield Generators for mine, with half a large flying base as the shield. :)

Something like these, but metal?

Look at the Thunderfire Cannon. It has tracks, but is also has pistons holding them in place. The thing is, if it is a steampunk force that has a Knight House origin and the backing of the Ecclesirachy and a pact with the AdMech, I am sure they can come up with some weird tech. That thing can have small tracks to move on top of stabilizers to prevent it being pushed away. The track would be for minimal advances like during a siege but is being carried by air units on longer distances. I mean, my Knights and super-heavy tanks are being deployed by air anyway.

Coffee has the right idea. Get is small tracks and stabilizers and were golden. I will need to see if I can actually convert the Aegis that way.

It also needs to fit the aesthetic. I am using Empire Cannons as my heavy weapon teams and even my Chimeras will be based on the Taurox design. This needs to be some awesome Gustav Adolf shenanigans :D

I'm not sure. What about making them look like they're slabs of concrete or whatever that are dropped into the ground and maybe picked up and moved again? Like give them hooks etc for picking up (e.g. power lifter Sentinels loading them on and off transport trucks etc), and make it looks like their bases have then just dropped in or something? Doesn't need to be a fancy high tech solution, as anyone can shuffle blocks around and on the battle field simple is often best :P
