Citadel Crusade Battle Case for Dark Angels

Hi, I am considering buying the Citadel Crusade Battle Case for my Dark Angels. I am reading a lot of mixed reviews about it, so I thought I’d ask how people have gotten on with it with their Dark Angels. I also have a couple of the bigger models like an Imperial Knight and a Storm Raven, how does it fair with these too? Thanks.

ive tried storing my army in one and here's my issues with the crusader box, it's too small for very large armies. If your typically rolling 1500p or 1750p it's not a bad little box and she can fit some obscure miniatures like the storm takin and the forge dreadnaughts (though you probably will need to carry the base for the flyer separate from the case). However if your trying to store 3 tanks, 2 dreads, a drop pod, 22 terminators and 32 infantry like I am it's simply not big enough by itself.

So my verdict is that it's good but your going to run into space issues if your out to store lots of vehicles or its just that many models.

I got to say that Citadel Cases are NOT worth the premium price tag. They dont hold much models, they are made of plastic. 80% of the price tag is the Brand name.

Here is my Big Box (doctors use this for home visits)

all the walls and floors are lined with 0.5mm steel plates so my bases can easily magnetize to them.

the bottom level of this box can hold 8 Rhinos. I can add a second level there by adding another steel plate(held in by powerful square magnets) so it can hold another 8.  For 16 Total. Or I can fit 4 Land Raiders and maybe another 4 on the second level(didnt measure). Can Easily fit a bunch of Drop Pods too dont know how many though.  Can Fit Imperial Knight too :)

The small top shelfs can hold whole 5th Company of my Dark Angels so 110+ Marines. AND All of my Deathwing so 35 Terminators plus all the dreadnoughts I have and I still have space left. So thats easily 3000 or 4000 points.

The bottoms of my vehicles have powerful flat long magnet so they can stick to the metal surface.

Oh and the box is only 28cm tall x 24cm wide (Total cost 34 USD with delivery and steel plates, the box it self was 23 usd.)

@ stormxlr very interesting idea...although i would've liked to have seen it filled with the above mentioned models to show how much it "actually" Can hold msn-wink.gif

Mithril

p.s do they still have those sabol and army transport bags?, they were always the better option and more flexible in tray choice and in what you could put and where...

It was mathematically calculated for rhinos. I wish I had such a big parking lot :)

The rest i can do but im lazy :D maybe some time

I have some citadel cases which are fine. However, I got a KR multicase with custom sections for speeders and landraiders and it is superb - smaller than the citadel ones, cheaper, lighter and fits more in. Definitely worth a look.

Very nice! Do you happen to know what those are called? I tried looking for one on google, but no luck so far.

Look for fishing tackle boxes as they open like this with the trays and such. See:

Very similar, but generally much more expensive than what he posted. As well as not being as deep in the drawer section, therefore precluding standing up models in the trays.

I have a Crusade Case and this is what it holds:

35 Terminators w/ various weapon options

10 DWKs

3x TDA Libbys

2x TDA Company Masters

1x TDA I. Chappy

And that's just one of the four double layered trays. Nothing has broken(inside the case, at least). There are still three other trays in the case. One holds 15 bikes, 6 RWKs, Sammael in Speeder, a Darkshroud with space for probably 5 more bikers.

The last two trays hold my Dark Eldar/Harlequin army which contains 20 Warriors, 10 Scourge, 10 Players, 2 Starweavers, 3 Skyweavers, 1 Raider, 1 Archon, 2 Death Jesters, 2 Shadowseers, 2 Talos, 5 Incubi and 2 Venoms.

Of course, some of these are magnetized a bit(like the Raider's sail, and Terminator Banners, but that's just the way things go. I recommend the case highly and I know for a fact the Imperial Knight fits in the case if you magnetize his waist, but also it fits in it's own tray as evidenced by GWs video about the case.

I'll post a picture in a little bit of my case.

Some stuff is missing as it is on my table for painting, but you can see there is still extra space. Again I highly recommend the case, howver, my only issue with it, compared to other bags, is that there are no pockets for books, dice, tools, etc. Easily remedied with a backpack, but there you go.

I hope this helps.

Taobao... sorry I have no idea either what this things are called, in chinese its medical aliuminum box.

I have to say the citadel case does look good, I just don't love the pricetag, and the buckles don't look secure to me.  You can buy a nice sized insert of pluck foam for like $10 USD, and a cheaper case.  I flipped the buckles open and closed in the store, and while they seem good, I'm not sure how they will stand up to extended use.  As someone who takes public transportation to and from different gaming locales, I have a need for a more heavy duty case because I'm carrying it on and off trains, cabs, and buses.  But if you're driving and throwing it in your trunk and just carrying it around a hobby shop it seems like a good buy.

I'm going to suggest a different case because every Citadel case I've had has broken at least one model on the way to the shop and one on the way back home. And of course the link is on my iPad. Grr.

Ok, found it. Go here for all your squishy foam needs. Some of their stuff is up there in price but I've kicked one of their cases across a room (ok, half a room) and nothing broke. Also, squishy foam. Squishy happy.png!

There is something freeing about saying your favourite word over and over again.

I've got to second Battlefoam. They may be expensive, but when your case full of precious models takes a tumble down a flight of concrete stairs, and not a single model is damaged, that's a good thing.

For the record, I totally did this on purpose to convert someone from GW to Battlefoam. I looked at him after my case rolled down, and said, "Now it's your turn!". He said no. Two weeks later, I saw him with a PACK 720 case.

I should get paid by Battlefoam. tongue.png

I have a crusader case and I like it a lot.  The the only problem I ever had with it was when I placed a predator inside where the sponsons were pressed against the zig-zag rows.  I should have placed the tank sideways to allow the sponsons more room; the preassure of the compacted foam bent one of them out of shape quite a bit.

Thanks for all the replies, and thanks Blank05 for the pictures! We have similar sized armies so it really helps to see how my Dark Angels could fit in there. I have been currently using old miniature boxes stuffed with tissue paper, and carried in a larger box. This is far from ideal, but it is doing the job, I get very little breakage and it is free. I drive, so I don’t have to worry about public transport and I am happy to carry on this way, but I have a birthday coming up and I am struggling for birthday present ideas. The Crusader Case is quite expensive, and I could spend that money on other things. My biggest concern now is the Imperial Knight, my flyers and Land Raider as these are the things I have the most trouble transporting and they suffer the most breakage. (I also have some Nids and putting the Flyrant in there looks daunting.) If I am not going to be able to fit the bigger models in the case then it feels pointless buying it. Unfortunately I am not in a position to go and have a look at one with my own eyes, so it is feeling like a big gamble.

I have looked at the other company’s cases, and they look good, but they are far too expensive for me, and I do not like the exact nature of them. I like taking a different list every week, and having specific cut foam is not useful.
