What's your favorite ally for IG?

Since we have all of the Imperiums armies as a choice for battle brothers hwat is your favorite combination?

Inquisition for fluff? Or for getting a 50 pts Ordo Haereticus Inquisitor with psyocculum to make sure your master of ordnance drops his pie plates on psykers with BS 10. This works excellent when playing against Eldar, Grey Knights or Tzeentch lovers. Or to remove a pesky tigurius from that Centurion death star.

Or some Blood Angels for Death Company backup?

I am thinking about getting me some Space Wolves. Put a Primaris psyker in a Devestator pack. Boom! Split firing Lascannons with Divination which can receive orders. Take the Company of the Great Wolf detachment. Take Bjorn to babysit your overcharged heavy weapons squads. Take Murderfang in a Drop Pod to send that magnificent package of close-combatness right into the enemy as a distraction. Supplement with a Rifledread or a venerable Dread with Axe/shield combo.

And while we are getting crazy with with allies, take two more Drop Pods. And a Culexus assassin. So Murderfang and the assasin drop in at turn one while the third pod will make an excellent mid game objective grabber.

Already getting excited just writing this laugh.png

Your thoughts and opinions? Any combos you prefer?

The Inquisition is always fun to include, it also suits my fluff (if only the codex had more options!). However I mostly run Sisters with Guard. They provide the eliteness to complement nicely but at a reduced cost compared to Marines. All that BS4 melta is nice and they shoot just as effectively as Marines (more so with Acts) for a reduced cost. It doesn't really matter if they are weaker because that's still power armour compared to flak and being cheaper you can get more in.

The standard Sister squad can put bolters and more on the table for a fair cost and they mechanise very well. Dominions and Seraphim provide some more mobility and punch, let the Sisters tackle the enemy up close where they are best and your Guard strike the enemy down from afar where they shine :) It's also good for the Sisters too as they lack long ranged fire support :tu:

I used to run my Knight with everything, in the end. The last game he exploded and destroyed a whole group of 30k Salamander Terminators and a Warlord. Truly, he that sheds his blood for the Emperor is remembered for eternity. Anyway, I never got around to really experimenting with allies all that much. Some things you can do seem like shenanigans in my book but no one is making me use them, I guess.

Blood angels aren't a bad ally. I've started running Flesh Tearers detachment to droppod suicide melta vets in the back field, and even though str6+ weapons are common FNP in a blob squad is a nice addition(or if you like running bullgryns). They also have good assault units to balance IG out.

I don't start from the position of "I should take an ally" and then move on to thinking "but which one?"  Instead, I let a hole in my list reveal itself, then, when I find that there's no decent solution in my own codex, the ally that suits my needs suggests itself.  Through that method, I stumbled into GK.  I didn't own any at the time, and I'm still painting them, but I'm adding six models as a GK ally.  My issue was daemon spam.  Even the firepower of the guard could barely keep up with killing off each turn's fresh summoning, leaving nothing left for whittling down the enemy's original 1850 points!  So I'll be fielding a GK librarian and five strike marines.  The five marines can't really be considered a tax in the context of an IG list, but the point is to get the librarian in there as daemon insurance.  If none show up, no problem, he can take a different discipline!  The cost?  With liber domina daemonica, ML3, a psycannon, and two halberds, it's 289.

I use Black Templars. Stick them in front of the guard. You wanna assault, gotta fight some ZEAL. You wanna shoot, my guard now have 5+ cover saves and are ready to drown you in flashlights. With AP nothing on the guns, the cover we grant you doesn't really matter. They work superbly well together. Especially when the Templars hijack the priests.

Beyond that, Inquisition is sometimes fun but that becomes a lot of points for one character model (only IG players get to say that) and Imperial Knights are basically two Leman Russ tanks with a big ol chainsword thrown in. Keeps those ruttin' mutants, I mean noble Astartes, out of my list at least.

March10k, do be advised, Cleansing Flame is a highly addictive Psychic Power and must be used with extreme caution, lest your IG forces will be severely replaced.

CLEANSE THEM WITH HOLY FIRE!

Addendum: And for any old WoW players out there, Sanctuary + Gate of Infinity is totally bubble-hearthing.
