Paper cutters and circle cutters for cutting plasticard?

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever tried these for cutting plasticard or shapes out of plasticard?

Something like these:

Although they're made for paper, I suppose a thin plasticard sheet would do fine in there and, at the very least, you can score it and snap it off.  Handy for cutting strips and very straight lines.

And for cutting circular pieces of plasticard, has anyone used a circle cutter such as this:

Just looking for solutions to problems I've had, namely cutting perfectly straight lines in my plasticard (even using a straight edge, it's tough) and cutting circles.

Thoughts?

I own two types of circle cutters. One is this type by Olfa:

and all I’ve ever managed to cut with it are spirals. The other one is this model:

which seems similar in concept to the circle cutter you link to. That works far better than the simple divider-like Olfa thing, and is more accurate.

I second just using a good compass with two points to scribe the desired circle into the plastic sheet. Fiskars products are rather overpriced for what they are, and really intended for paper. (I do love their ring-style razor handle) I don't think they would perform well on plastic. Have a look on Page 25 of my WIP plog and you can see exactly how easy it is to use a $10 compass wit two points to scribe perfect circles. The trick is just scribing a good circle into the plastic on both sides and then just flexing the plastic to break the disk free. Works every time, even on reasonably thick sheet.
