Crazy Church Tournament Army Ideas

Recommended Posts

Last Year I went to a Tournament "Kings of the North", I try to go to a new tournament at least every two months but big ones like this I prepare for year round.

Previously I was third as I finished with a draw against the tournament winner at the end as we ran out of time, he was close to tabled however which is a shame on the time limit.

It was based over two days with 5 games.

This year however they are looking at two tournaments, both are 1850, 1 Is competitive and swiss system based, the other is Fluff based so its all about the look for the army.

Yes you could take a filthy army to both but you would loose so many points on fluff you can not win.

So as this year I am taking my Deathwatch to the Competitive side I want my sisters to be ready for the fluffy side.

Normally though I run a mech list, lots of transports, Immolators, Exorcists and Repressors which is good but I want to change the game so to speak as I am also gunning for best army.

All that said i am making a crazy church army.

Looking at Sisters and Inquisition, Also maybe an assassin.

I have made a test list which i would appriciate any one looking over which i will post here, remember though i am going for looks.

What I really want though is folks to jump in with sugestions and awesome pictures of conversions and ideas for the overall force.

The following is the model count then followed by the list.

Odds are after working out the ideas I will incorperate the finished product into my plog:

How do they judge the 'fluff' points?

They judge it around the theme of a force and how it matches up to the lore by a disscussion between 3 judges/ TO's over the list and how the army looks.

Any Written lore and any references to the force in the cannon.

They have also said the less gamey it is the better so knights of any kind and D cannons will kick you right in the teeth on points.

They are still working out the finer points but I have till june to finish it.

Yeh, I do have allot of penditent engines but I am pushing for a crusade of Penence feel where they are there to punish the unbelievers.

Considering converting the sisters squads and immolators up so they match the force more.

Lol, my opponents hate me for bringing 3 Penitent Engines, and you're going to be taking 9!  I wonder how many cries of cheese you'll get for that?

Looks like a fun list though; difficult to give advice without the specifications of what constitutes fluffy.

Idea: drop three of the Penitent Engines and replace with a couple squads of Repentia? Go with the Repentant Host Formation? Rampage and It will not die, plus rerolls on Feel No Pain? Just an idea.

That formation is Apocolypse only, though :(

But if the TO allows unbound, who cares if its apoc only.

Well unbound gives you no formation benefits, a formation obviously does. Just because unbound is allowed and 'balanced' doesn't mean that formations meant for different rulesets are.

I'm not saying they wouldn't allow it though, if asked.

Welp! Derp! Reading failure inbound.....

Still a couple of more priests with Repentia isn't a bad thing IMHO.

Ugh, I hope your TOs actually know their fluff instead of going off 4-chan Internet Wisdom.

They know their stuff and are veteran gamers of 20 years and are tournament level players so they spot broken a mile off. ;)

Think of the force as a crusading church force of pennence.

Its all about the look, the Penitent engine are for fluff, even if they do hurt.

No unbound, this is fkind of a blessing though, imagine facing 5 wraith knights...

Someone would do it. :P

You say you want pictures of converted models? You say you like priests? Well have I got something for you! Not one but two converted priests!

Nice conversions mate.

I may have to post up one of mine later so you get an idea of my style. ;)

Now I have refined the list a little to work in more of a church feel, I can drop the boltguns on the Acolytes if folks think they are better with 2 combat weapons which would save 24 points.

The Current list is: 1825 without those savings.

I have added more repentia and made the sister squads back board edge camping squads.

The Large Inquisition Squad will be walking up mid field but I am tempted to get them a Chimera or something with the spare points.

Have a look and see what you think, remember though, this force is all about the conversions and theme, even if it is still decent in terms of power due to the sheer amount of combat.

I think a Chimera would be fitting for the Inquisitor and his party. Add a Forge World Inquisition back door on the transport, paint the whole thing black with weathering, and there you go. For the turret, I always go basic and keep the Multi-laser. It lends some good stopping power.

EDIT: Also, yes, give us some pictures of your priests!

Problem is the cost of the unit, its 6 points more than what I can trim.

I Could However add another 2 Priests for the Repentia Squads and still have 3 points remaining.

I could also just try to find 10 points and give him a Rhino. :P

That could give me a servo skull for no reason at all. :D

Just Hoping 3 Units of 3 Penitence Engines and 3 units of 10('ish) Repentia can hurt folks enough in combat.

With so much foot slogging in your list, is it really worth giving anything tanks? It won't be hard for your opponent to focus Fire on what little transports you have, I'd probably still take one for your inquisitor but that would be about it and have him cover jump up the board. Plus it's a death wish to put Repentia in there as they can't assault out of it.

My old Iron Hands lists are exactly that, Katya. One tank and foot-sloggers. The tank wasn't the true threat- it's merely there for quick cover and as a feint. I understand we're talking about different armies with different styles of play but it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to think there is something more powerful in the Sisters' forces than a Chimera or a Rhino.

If you can fool your opponent, excellent. If you can't, excellent still. That's the time to use the tank for all it's worth.

I feel like this is one of the very few instances were giving Repentia tanks is a good idea. There's so many of them that something will get in, and Rhino's combined with 9 engines means someone needs a ton of reliable anti-tank to deal with it. Usually the same things that fall easily to CC units.

My plan is as they move up my Penitence engines will be in front running with the tank overcharging to keep pace, turn two the tanks will move up and they will jump out using the tanks for screening where as the penitence engines should be in their ranks by this point.

The girls suffer without armour to get them close, I am simply trying to create so much target priority they can't handle what they are facing.

Remember though, where as I want this list to be capable its all about the look of the force.

Off work tomorrow so I'll get a few warband images for folks. ;)
