Theduke08
Ive been a long time blood angels play and am looking to start a new sm force and have decided to go with Silver skulls. Ive never really used vanilla marines before but am looking for some suggestions on getting started with a 1k to 1.5k starter forces. Im planning on running a libby and a chaplain as my HQ's as they are fluffy for the skulls. For my core list im looking at something like this... Libby Chaplain Van vet squad 2x Tac squads in Rhinos 3x Whirlwinds. Obviously there is a lot of room to work with. The one thing im not up to speed on is all of the for the sm dex is all the detachments with all of the formations and rules. Any info or advised would be greatly appreciated. Here is my test mini for my Paint scheme. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312146-greetings/ Share on other sites
Sviar
A very good choice, I too like the Silverskulls chapter. You always tailor a list to fit the resistence. But I have a advice though. Whatever I face I always equip five Sternguards with five Cobi-Meltas in a Drop pod. Whirlwinds are a good choice, some people don't like them but I do, so I bring at least one with me to a game. Cpt Rana
Don't know anything about the silver skulls but love jump marines. Cool VV you got there. If you like whirlwinds you should probably go for the auxiliary force called suppression force. It consists of 2 whirlwinds and a "spotter" landspeeder which grants reroll to hit to the whirlwinds against targets within 18' of the speeder. Theduke08
@Sviar I rarely leave home with out a meltacide squad when playing blood angels so I definitely agree that they are a great tool. Perfect for nuking a primary target. @Cpt Rana ill have to look into that formation. Thats one area that im not up to date on. There are too many formations for me to keep up with. markham82
Welcome Brother If you are looking for a dedicated anti tank squad, the command squad could give you better mileage since they can all have melta guns instead of combi meltas. That's not to say the sternguard are bad at their job. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312146-greetings/#findComment-4143159 Share on other sites
Schultzhoffen
Welcome. I agree with the above cooments re: Drop Pod Melta Squads. Other units you could look at: 1.A bike Command Squad with grav guns are useful (or even just 3-5 bikers with x2 grav and a combi grav). 2. A Tri-Las predator and/or Thunderfire cannon is also a good investment. 3. A stormtalon (or two) -either with lascannons or the Str 8 missiles (these are cheap and effective units). 4. Consider adding a third Tactical Squad in a drop pod. 5. An Ironclad dreadnought in a drop pod can be a useful distraction that will force your opponent to change his plans (this unit is also mostly immune to your whirlwinds). The idea is to pressurise the enemy with pods while giving your other units (Vanguard, Bikes, etc) time to get up close. Things to avoid: 1. Equpping Tac Squads for CC. 2. Blowing any podded unit up with your x3 whirlwinds! Re: Formations - I don't bother. I take a simple Battle Forged army built around the same core I've used for 10 years. Still works for me. Basically, keep it simple before you expand your horizons. Good luck. Theduke08
To be honest I just put him together and painted him in the last 7 days, just finished him last night. So as of yet I havent tried him on the table top. I really only purchased him because the new plastics for the assassins are such great sculpts.
