Tiger9gamer
So I finally bought Final liberation on GOG, and I wanted to know if anyone else picked it up too! I personally have yet to beat the mission after the first (commisar died mission two and I forgot to save during the ultramarine thing) so I'm finding it quite tough. BUT I did have fun doing 2000 points of titans versus 1,000pts of orks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312156-final-liberation/ Share on other sites
Olis
I'm finding the archaic controls are ruining my sense of nostalgia - I seem to have forgotten just how many simple functions in games these days were missing back then. Tiger9gamer
Sooo I cannot seem to get past the 2nd level. I was doing really well last time with a gun line approach but turns out I needed all my imperials in a square by the end turn and I lost with 3 orks left on the field? I wish i knew what I was supposed to do. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312156-final-liberation/#findComment-4143704 Share on other sites
Jarl of Wulfen
The little spinning icons are control points. If you don't claim them you continue to lose points, if you run out of points you lose. They are white dots on the minimap. You also lose points if your guys run off the map or get killed. Kythnos
I'm finding the archaic controls are ruining my sense of nostalgia - I seem to have forgotten just how many simple functions in games these days were missing back then. I kind of got the same problem. So many inconveniences and no real tutorial (there's one, but it has no explanations - how is that supposed to help?)... you really need to work yourself into the game via trial and error. I wish i knew what I was supposed to do. I beat the second mission today. Basically you mount all your troops up in transports and move towards the center as fast as possible. Unload all units once you reach the concrete area and form a gunline with your infantry and transports. Slowly push forward and outshoot the OrKs as you've got the nummerical advantage. Keep an eye out for the central objective and make sure you control it the turn after you unloaded your troops by sending sacrificial transports (one at a time) to claim it. Your artillery should be pounding the OrKs from afar. Only the Quad Launchers are useless in this mission, as they are too slow to get any Orks into firing range before the fight is over. Xenith
Picked it up, but playing Chaos Gate first! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312156-final-liberation/#findComment-4146955 Share on other sites
Destrucifex
I consider Chaos Gate a much better game. Final Liberation is fun but tragically unpolished. You have this massive variety of units at your disposal but the bombard/mortars are objectively better than everything else apart from titans. You field them with a handful of infantry or flak guns to ward off fliers and you have a game-breaking army. The space marine units are all bizarrely awful. Orks are hopelessly outmatched with just a couple of units that can even scratch Imperial armor. Only their gimmicky speedsta vehicles are useful. More importantly the campaign Orks are designed to match your army in every battle like an actual tabletop game. There's no point in working your way up to baneblades and titans because that just means you'll have to fight gargants. As long as you stick to infantry and mortars the enemy army will be weak. This makes the campaign superfluous because there's no metagame. I hope somebody hacks this game someday, if only to modify the unit stats and provide fixed enemy armies for the campaign. It was very close to being great. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312156-final-liberation/#findComment-4148605 Share on other sites
