Razblood
Greetings all, I hope you are having a good day thus far. As promised a while ago here is a brief review and my overall thoughts about the new Warcolours paint range. But first a rundown of the colours I've tried.... Left based with my Gesso primer mix, right layered with 2 coats of Ceramite White. Each Warcolour received 2 coats, top half neat and bottom half thinned. Colour Opacity Details White 3 Pretty decent coverage for a White, goes over my Primer in a couple of coats even thinned. Black 3 Again decent coverage, like a good version of VGC Black. Red 3 2 Not great coverage, more suited for highlights. Similar to 90's Blood Red, but a little darker. Orange 3 2 Almost a fluo colour, similar in shade to Fiery Orange, again more of a highlight colour. Ochre 3 3 Good coverage with a couple of coats, similar tone to Tau Sept Ochre. Green 3 2 Quite bright Apple Green sort of colour, better coverage than others with the same opacity. Turquoise 2 3 Just awesome, great colour, excellent coverage, favourite from this set. Violet 3 3 Needs a couple of coats to star looking good, nice tone. Flesh 3 3 Really reminds me of 90's Dwarf Flesh in tone and behaviour, though it doesn't separate. Cool Grey 3 3 It's Codex Grey, nuff said! Yellow ? ? Says 3 on the bottle, but looks like 2 on the chart, Bit fluo, Looks like old Bad Moon Yellow. Pink ? ? No sticker on the bottle, looks and behaves like a pale 90's Warlock Purple. Good for highlights. Blue 3 1 Very translucent, probably good for OSL, but would need 6 - 8 coats minimum for solid colour. Brown 4 2 Like a slightly less opaque Scorched Brown, quite nice. Now I have to admit that I had assumed that I would be getting the colours charted on the Basics paint set listing on the Warcolours site and was slightly disappointed to find that I received several colours not on the chart instead, but this is a minor bugbear and really worth complaining about. Which this isn't btw, just a warning in case you encounter the same. The paints thin very well and mix with every other brand I have (VGC, VMC, P3, Citadel from ancient to new, Revell Aqua, Humbrol Acrylic) with no issues. The bottles are great and the childproof caps are genius. I honestly can't say that you should go out and get the whole range right now t replace all others, what I can say however is that at this price point and with the quality given that these are definitely worth a look and I would recommend anyone to pick up one of the varied sets and try them out. You never know, you might find them better than what you currently use. As a finale here's an old Terminator body that I knocked up with the set, there were an amazing number of layers of Ochre through Yellow here, but I do like to result. This is purely the Warcolours, even the wash on the purity seal was heavily thinned Brown 4. Anyway, that's it from me for now. At least until their Metallics come out because I definitely want to try those out :tu: Later guys.
