BLUESH33P
So I'm new to the Guard, but I'm starting an army soon to celebrate a boost in income and I've sought of devised a fluffy 2500pt list, but one that I hope can at least scare the pants of my opponents. It goes as follows: 1x 5-man scion command squad w/ commisar OR Coteaz 2x squads of 10 scions 1x Valkyrie 2x Taurox Primes 1x Imperial Knight Tripartite Lance (i.e. crusader, gallant & warden) 1x 3-man bullgryn squad I have some tactics set up to take full advantage of all of this, but it currently stands at about 2150 points and lacks long range artillery (The knights will be sticking together and moving slowly up the table if all goes well). So what artillery would you guys and gals recommend? I like the sound of either: 2x Wyverns 2x Basilisks or 3x Lascannon teams Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312534-looking-for-advice-on-a-guard-army/ Share on other sites
Myrkul
Wyverns are always win. I would say they do the bulk of the heavy lifting in my army. My advise as well for Guard. Blobs. With the new meta of marine drop (especially Skyhammer, and double skyhammer for those who play ITC format) theyre a great area denial tool. Teetengee
I would go with leman russ since they will provide saturation with the knights, however, I will always have a soft spot for lascannons. Frater Cornelius
Leman Russ are great. They laugh at so many weapons in this game, it is hilarious. Also Wyvern. I would fill the last slots with those. Well, either Leman Russ and Wyvern or Basilisks and Wyvern, depending on your taste. I prefer the former. By the way, you do realize that your army is unbound, right? Not that that is a problem, but I just want to make sure you are aware of that ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312534-looking-for-advice-on-a-guard-army/#findComment-4149642 Share on other sites

I think I'll go with the two wyverns and maybe 1 or 2 lascannons with leftover points Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312534-looking-for-advice-on-a-guard-army/#findComment-4149644 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Welcome to the Guard BLUE :D Aiming for 2500pts is laudable, but best to start small and work your way up so I'd look at what 1000 and 1500pts armies you could build along the way too :) Looks like you're building an Unbound army with a focus on Scions? In that case as mentioned Wyverns will be good, they'll help counter enemy infantry letting your elite units concentrate on their jobs. How are you planning on getting the lascannons in? As heavy weapon squads you'll need a Platoon, otherwise Vets could be an option. Have you devised a colour scheme for your army? Teetengee
Do you need a platoon for heavy weapons squads even in unbound? I figured you could run them not unlike one could run dedicated transports separately. But maybe neither are allowed? Frater Cornelius
Yes. Unbound ignores the FOC, but it still must abide by the unit entries. WarriorFish
As Immer said they're stated as part of the Platoon and taken as a single selection, which takes precedent here I believe. There is some possible wiggle room but this is mostly due to Unbound being a bit slap dash in description if I remember right, so it's not a great foundation for an argument. I always say in such situations take the "least beneficial" interpretation and you'll find fewer problems both getting and during games If you want more you'll need to take it to the denizens of the OR to boil it down ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312534-looking-for-advice-on-a-guard-army/#findComment-4149887 Share on other sites
