Kilofix
Is there a good way to model smoke for a diorama? Like lots of smoke, like a space rocket launch? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312605-modeling-smoke/ Share on other sites
Peredyne
Believe it or not, Clump foliage does this particularly well. I've seen a few people use it to build exhausts from jump packs and contrails from missiles. Kilofix
Sounds good, I'll try that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312605-modeling-smoke/#findComment-4151121 Share on other sites
Interrogator Stobz
I ripped up the fluff from inside a pillow and lightly sprayed it black for mine, it's a bit like cotton wool but better. Daevyll
Take a look at this diorama Not sure how he does it, but perhaps some smart chap can reverse-engineer it? Looks awesome imo. Firepower
Looks like a cotton puff at the base, and the solid parts are...maybe glue-treated tissue? Total stab in the dark of course. Gordon Shumway
That looks awesome! And I would guess tissue as well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312605-modeling-smoke/#findComment-4155699 Share on other sites
apologist
A framework of wire (paperclips work well) pushed into foam (the oasis used for flower arranging, for example) or polystyrene can work for the structure to give it some form, and allow you to have bits shooting off, as in the diorama above. You can then cover the explosion structure with glue and wisps of cotton wool, gradually building it up. If you're after explosion markers, you can buy electronic tealights that contain a flickering LED. Wrapping these in cotton wool and giving a light dusting of black spray from above creates quick and effective explosion markers.
