SC6669's World Eaters (WIP)

Recommended Posts

Greetings and salutations. This thread is where I’ll be posting progress on my world eaters army. First up, we have not one, but four hellblade fighters:

And four custom made flaying bases:

Next we have three blood slaughterers (one of which is an impaler):

And lastly for today, a dreadclaw drop pod (partly cause of cool factor and partly because my HQ choices need a transport):

Thanks for the comments guys. As I was going through my bits box i realized I had enough bits to start making a full squad. As I decided against making a 10th berzerker squad (88 is such a magical number and I hate the idea of messing it up  ), I opted to start a second chosen squad, this one in more of a tank hunter role. As I started getting more bits to finish building the squad, I found out that games workshop has apparantly decided to discontinue making the world eaters shoulder pads I've been using for the past 13+ years...wouldn't have been so bad, except I only had two of the old style ones in my bits box :wallbash:

I thought ok ebay to the rescue....no luck there either. The only ones avalible were the forge world style ones. Nothing wrong with them of course, but they don't match the two I had already...then I had an idea. Back in 3rd edition 40k, there was a rule that if the number of troops in your squad was the sacred number of your patron diety (8/khorne in this case) you could have a second aspiring champion. Since I did have two of my preferred pads, I decided to have the second model reperesent that fluff, using the forge world pads for the remining six. Here's some (very) WIP shots. The squad leader:

Melta Gun:

Plasma Gun:

Lascannon:

My "second in command":

And the remaining three members:

I was going to get more bits for these guys last night, but saw an opportuniy I couldn't pass up:

I'll be putting up more pics of the hell talon once it arrives.

I got some more parts for my chosen: some skullcrusher heads (I am especially fond of the head in the first pic...it is almost a dead ringer for the head I built for my lord of skulls):

As of this post the legs I ordered arrived and I am assembling them...that just leaves the backpack I ordered for the squad leader (which will match his chest armor nicely). More pics forthcoming.

Shortly before making this post I purchased another one of the oval chaos bases I am using for my hellblade fighters (I would have liked to get two more, but the seller only had one left). Once that arrives, my plan is to use the skull base for the "lead" hellbalde, the three chaos bases on the remaining three hellblades, and the possessed base for the hell talon. As always, questions and comments are welcome.

I got the first four chosen painted:

After I get the next four painted I still need to figure out a transport for these guys. I know I want to scratch build it but I'm undecided whether to go with a rhino, a land raider, a land raider proteus, or a spartan tank.

I’ve started painting up some arms for my next four slaughterfiends. This time around I wanted to try something different for the color scheme, so I went with Fortress Grey, Dwarf Bronze with Shining Gold highlights, and Tin Bitz for the hoses. For the head I got a forgefiend ectoplasma head:

I finished painting up two more sets of slaughterfiend arms. For the first set, I used vermin brown/nulan oil/leadbelcher on the flat areas, snot green/tin bitz/shining gold on the trim, and leadbelcher highlighted with runefang steel for the other metal areas. The hoses I painted goblin green:

The plan with this slaughterfiend is to give it kind of a Jason Voorhees vibe. I’ll modify the skull mask to resemble a hockey mask, and have lots of trophy racks/hanging bodies.

With the second set of arms I used a much simpler color scheme. I drybrushed runefang steel over a black basecoat, painted the hoses shining gold, and then used enchanted blue on the flat areas:

Well folks, I wound up gone for a bit longer than I intended. Between my camera breakikng down and some other stuff that happened I decided to take a break. I finally got a new camera a few weeks ago and have it figured out enough to take some pictures. During my break I finally got the bits I needed to build something I have been itching to have: a kytan daemon engine. For mine, I used the legs from an imperial knight warden, as well as some bits from a forgefiend kit:

The painting went fairly rapidly:

For some reason the bottom parts of these two pics are blurry:

And here's the finished kytan daemon engine, which I named Erebos (who just happens to be the god of the dead in Magic the Gathering's Theros block of cards):

Thanks for the comments guys. The other day I realized I never had taken pics of another new project I started. A while back, it was pointed out to me that the miniature juggernaut heads from the lord of skulls kit were about the right size to use as terminator heads. For a good while I wasn't sure how I wanted to go about building a squad of these but I finally forged ahead and started building them. The plan is to use them mainly as a bodyguard force (such as for Zhufor).  For the most part I used FW WE termi bodies, heads, and shoulder pads combined with space wolf termi bits. For the bases, I found some really cool skull bases on EBay that until this project I wasn't sure what I would do with them (they look more like they should be in WHFB, but then I got the idea of  painting them brass). The juggernaut heads, while approximately the right size, were difficult to attach to the model (the tiny knob on the back of the heads is too short to reach into the collar on the body) so I used a small blob of green stuff inside the collar, pressing the knob on the back of the head into the putty while it was still wet. once the putty was dry this gave me something to attach the head onto. I don't have any wip pics of the models (I had no camera at the time) but I do have some nice finished shots of them:

As you can see from the above pics, I've built six so far, and am working on getting parts to build two more (those two will have wip shots once I get the rest of the parts).

Well I started on the paint since my last post. I decided to try something a little less time consuming for my red recipe this time around (mainly because I haven't been able to get the bottles of paint I need to mix up a new batch). I started off with wazdakka red, drybrushed some evil sunz scarlet over that, and then went over thaat with carroburg crimson shade:

http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz345/Soulcrusher6669/Forge%20World%20Projects/Dreadclaw%200017.jpg

For the brass areas I used hashut copper highlighted with auric armor gold:

http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz345/Soulcrusher6669/Forge%20World%20Projects/Dreadclaw%200018.jpg

Unfortunately I noticed a problem when I started painting the brass areas on the dreadclaw's body. Sometime between the few days I let the model sit and when I started painting the brass, one of the spikes on the bottom of the pod broke off:

http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/zz345/Soulcrusher6669/Forge%20World%20Projects/Dreadclaw%200019.jpg

I spent several hours looking for the part but couldn't find it. Until I can figure out what I'm doing for a replacement, this project is on hold.
