Dolchiate Remembrancer
Hey guys and gals! I assume my question is in the right forum as it is technically about basing, just not models but the wargame table itself. I'm in the process of building a modular 6X4 wargame table out of Vinyl tiles(see here) and was wondering what could be the easiest to most elaborate, cheapest to most expensive option I would have to texture-ize or cover these tile pieces to make them look like a battlefield. Wraith776
I have seen people using plaster for texture. Rub a bit of it on top with you hand and your hands contours will leave little bumps and stuff in it. Paint it up and it looks pretty good. Lucio
This stuff is pretty useful for adding some depth to the tiles, there's a mix of hills, rocks, gullys and various buildings. The plastic is reasonably robust, similar to plasticard http://www.amera.co.uk/product.php?range=f Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312626-modular-wargame-table-cover/#findComment-4153862 Share on other sites
Jeff Newton
A friend of mine covered his table with textured wallpaper and pained that to look like charred dirt. Dolchiate Remembrancer
Slight update First time busting out the WIP wargaming table top! http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d169/mateus909/Mobile%20Uploads/20150918_202010.jpghttp://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d169/mateus909/Mobile%20Uploads/20150918_202026.jpg The original plan was to mod podge felt to the surface but going to change that by painting different fabric covers. My question now is what sort of fabric to use? Doomrider!
I'd go for something soft like felt but that's just me :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312626-modular-wargame-table-cover/#findComment-4176915 Share on other sites
nismogrendel
How much $ do you have to spare? The FAT mats are awesome for the price. About $100 and you get a quality printed mousepad like material. I got their urban one and really like it. I mean right now Felt cover is still an option at about 15.00$ a roll(about 8 pounds I think...) If I can get something cheaper then awesome! Komodo
Buy some plywood or any other sturdy material to serve as a base, buy foamcore. Cut 6 24x24 base material and foamcore pieces, Glue them together, carve foamcore whatever you like, hit it with sand and grit and paint it. Really cheap and gives you ability to customize your table yourself, as well as compact storage ability.
