Beerhammer
What's is the normal squad size people run, be it jump infantry or non-jump infantry? I bring this up because looking at my destroyer squad and wanting not to spend a truck load of points into it. And another question, what do most people prefer when equipping them? Slips
Destroyers are odd in that they are absurdly expensive but only get the maximum out of their exclusive special weapon (the Rad Missile Launcher) at 10 men. At this point in time, I look at them as Marines with 12" Bolters that always shoot Rapid Fire. Makes the 2x Bolt Pistols seem less "bleeegghhh". Also helps that mine are shooting at BS5 due to IF. For my Destroyers, when I use them I kinda build the List to support them instead of trying to slot them in because of how expensive they are. Its usually: Destroyer Squad: 10x Marines, JP Optional, 2 Rad-Missile Launchers, Sarge with Artificer Armor bare minimum; Power Weapon and 1-3 Phosphex Bombs as points allow. Still, if you're using a Moritat, slapping Naked Destroyers with JP or in a Land Raider onto him as a Retinue is a decent way of upping his survivability. My Primary CC unit is usually Templar Bros and it depends on Points level / What I want to bring to a game that day. If I can, they roll with Sigismund and a Primus Medicae at 10 Men in a Spartan. Not Always Possible but hey. Assault Squads I cant speak from experience but the only time I consider them is when I'm drumming up Angels Wrath Lists and dont want to spend so much on Tac Squads in Storm Eagles. Still, Points allowing my Preferred Method is: Assault Squad: 10x Marines, 2 Power Weapons, Sarge with Artificer Armor, Melta Bombs & Power Weapon. If points allow: Squad Melta Bombs and Combat Shields. Theredknight
I play ec, and use one assault squad of 15 or 16. It has 3 pwr weapons and a kitted out sarge. I attach eidolon for hammer smashing, and he generally causes havoc in the lines. His +1 to charge is good on his and surrounding units to break a line. I find them effective and also good at scoring frontline objectives (great for those d3 maelstroms!) Brofist
I play Iron Hands at 1500-1850. Assault squads cost a lot of points, so if I really need a melee unit, I'll run tacticals and swap their bolters for CCWs. If I need a dedicated melee unit I run a command squad on bikes with a mix of power weapons (some to take challenges, others to just chop through hordes) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312699-assault-squads-and-cc-units/#findComment-4153400 Share on other sites
Hesh Kadesh
Destroyer squads are a 5 man Rad Grenade delivery unit. You have a good assault squad, and then combine a charge with both Destroyers and Assault unit into one. Take a Sergeant with Artificer Armour and have him tank the shots out front from overwatch, and otherwise keep hidden. Works really well with Night Lords and Sons of Horus who get bonuses for outnumbering, as that's a further +10 men to the fight. Othewise, Rad nades are limited to Death Guard running the Reaping, and Forge Lords. Which are expensive, and only fit inside squads 9 men or less or in a Spartan, which soon mounts up. As for Assault Squads, mine are usually Praevians, with several Castellax spouting Darkfire cannons. Darkfire gets through vehicles, then charge in with 25 S7 AP2 attacks apiece. Alternatively, Sevatar, and 9x Veterans with a few power weapons in the mix, or a 20 man horde on foot with a Vexilla and FNP. Where's the old Hesh I used to know and love? :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/312699-assault-squads-and-cc-units/#findComment-4154161 Share on other sites
