3k Emperor's Children Maru

After much deliberation I've settled on the 3rd Legion for my HH project and support the Warmaster's cause. 

My goal is to create an army that is fluffy, yet does not roll over. With that in mind the following were the goals in my list

 

1. Use the Phoenix Termies and Fulgrim (both look sweet)

2. Use at least one Sicaran Tank and Contemptor 

3. Use at least 3 Jetbikes (2+ save plus the EC find them to be favorable). 

4. Have various options to use the Maru Skara with. I don't want to Outflank the same units each game, all about being flexible.

 

 

Note *at present the list is 25 pts over so hopefully with some suggestions, it can be trimmed up.

 

LOW: Fulgrim 380

HQ: Legion Champion w/ AA, Power Fist, Refractor Field 125

HQ: Praetor w/ MC Paragon Blade, Melta Bombs, Digital Lasers, Iron Halo, Sonic Shrieker, Scimitar Jetbike 235

HQ: Primus Medicae w/ Power Weapon, Scimitar Jetbike 145

 

Troops

20 Tac Marines, Srgt w AA, Power Fist 275

Elites

Contemptor Dreadnought w/ 2x TL-Lascannon 225

  (I opted for LC vs Kheres AC's as the Emp Children are known to favor LC, plus I felt I needed a little more AT)

Apothecarion Detachment 110

   2x Apothecary w AA (these attach to the Tac Squads)

5 Phoenix Terminators w/ Spartan Assault Tank w amoured ceramite and flare shield 605

 

Fast Attack

6 Jetbike Sky Hunters w/ 2 Volkite Culverin, Melta Bombs 290

3 Outriders w/ TL Plasma Guns 165

 

Heavy Support

1 Sicaran Battle Tank w/ Armoured Ceramite, Lascannon Sponsons 195

 

Total 3025

 

Plan is to attach the Legion Champ and Fulgrim with the Phoenix Terminators. Attach the Praetor and Primus with the Sky Hunters. This gives me 4 outflank options w the Dread, Spartan, Sky hunters and Outriders. 

Outriders target 2+ save units, Spartan and Skyhunters provide two units that can get in cc, Contemptor and Sicaran aim at AT.

Welcome to the phoenix lodge!

I chose EC because I love the colour scheme, the fluff and gorgeous models :-)

 

I starred out trying to play fluffy but lost badly as I tried to master the army, against the others it's essentially playing on hard mode nowadays. But it's commendable you will try also!

Try your list out a few times and see if it works, if it doesn't youl probably know where the cracks are.

I can give a few tips though.

 

You can outflank 3 units from elites or fast attack, not 4.

8 jetbikes is a massive unit to move about, I try it with 6 and suffered. Better to split into 2 groups of 2, you have the space and it's easier to move them around and position for meltabomb charges.

Culverins are good because you can fire through snapshots if you jink.

If you want to go for a big group of course give it a whirl.

 

Your dread will almost certainly be better as a Mortis and cheaper, as it will double up as your anti air, las are pricey but give you range and hopefully a hp or two. Remember they can still jink though, so more shots the better, autocannons or kheres is best with these.

 

Your champ may be better off in a Tac squad supporting them. Fulgrim will be fine on his own as long as he gets to combat.

He should also have a power spear as he will more than likely get a charge off. Possibly worth giving him a boarding shield in this role as it negates te charge bonus of the enemy.

 

I never used outriders so I cannot comment, caustic may do soon.

 

Youl generally find hard units in transports so may want to try and crack them first. I boost my bikes into their faces t1, and surround it's access points, it stops it moving or pivoting and if they survive they can melta bomb it. Enemy unit gets out and assaults, but now they are out and not decimating one of your units. You shoot them down and counter charge, true ec style :-)
