Painting WW2 style helmet, not sure how to highlight it.

Recommended Posts

I've been working on some IG veteran troops with Pig Iron Kolony Militia heads.

I'm working on highlighting the gasmask and helmet.  I'm not sure which way looks best.

Grey used is dawnstone.

Left troop: line highlight around rim of helm and on protruding piece on his right side

Middle Troop:  heavy drybrush over helmet sections that would be catching the sun

Right troop:  line highlight on edges that would catch sun, light drybrush on top of helm

For reference, the rest of my army has helmets in this style:

I'm leaning towards the middle style.  I also am trying to figure out if I want to highlight the gasmask and paint the circular vent things.  Trooper on the right has silver on vents and gasmask highlighted.

Any critique/comments are greatly appreciated! :)

I think I'd do this without drybrushing, using shades and highlights. I really only use drybrushing on highly textured surfaces.

You could take a dark grey base, highlight lighter gray on edges, black shade, lightly redo edge-highlights to taste.
