New Heresy Novel- Master of Mankind

Recommended Posts

I know AdB novels are good but I'm awfully fearful most of this book is gonna be about dorn/malcador/point of view custodian, and only a little emperor action. Like the audio the sigilite, malcador was in it at the end and the picture had nothing to do with the audio like BL were trying to hint. Not getting my hopes up til the book is in my hands, and avoiding spoilers from the americas/Europeans like the plague

Yeah, expecting it to be from the Emperor's point of view seems to be more than a little unrealistic... If ADB is writing from the Emperor's perspective, he is either the bravest or most foolish man in the world.

I'd just be happy to hear some more about the Emperor, from other character's perspectives.

I'm genuinely not expecting emperor POV. What my implication was is that the emperor is gonna be the guy in the background, then 3/4 chapters toward the end you see him lay demon smack down while someone sees him from nearby, and that will be about it. Though I could be entirely wrong of course and the emperor could start explaining the way he did things whilst in conversation with primarchs I. E. 18 paragraphs throughout the book where the big E is having 1 on 1's with each of his sons. The few things I've read from BL haven't really got my hopes up yet I'll admit

This book has been in the works for a long time. I had the privilege of discussing it with ADB at some length in May 2014 and shared quite a bit in this epic post:http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293819-horus-heresy-weekender-big-review-resurrected/

Obviously a lot of details could have changed since then but I'm sure the central principle that we can't get inside the Emperor's head will hold true. It would wreck the setting.

As it stands you can argue in favour of either side by viewing the Emperor as a truly good, if flawed, visionary who puts mankind ahead of himself OR as a bloodthirsty, callous egomaniac.

Also, you're all jumping to the conclusion that the title refers to The Emperor. Aaron, by his own admission, loves ambiguous titles. Look at The First Heretic, that obviously means Lorgar, or does it? It could equally be Erebus or Kor Phaeron since they corrupted Lorgar. Or Argel Tal, first of the possesed marines. Or the Davinites? If anything TFH showed that there was no one first heretic, nobody you could point to and say, "If it wasn't for him none of this would have happened".

Betrayer - on the face of it the title refers to Khârn but Khârn doesn't betray anyone in it. Skalathrax is still years away. Based on the events of the book Lorgar and Erebus are both more suited to the title.

In this vein, the Master Of Mankind could be Malcador or even something less tangible. To the far flung Expeditionary Fleets word from Terra IS the word of the Master Of Mankind but in practice most instructions will be nothing to do with the Emperor. They'll be the product of a mass of committees and a bureaucratic quagmire of competing political and commercial interests. A theme of the book could be that the idea of a single Master of something as vast as Mankind is a covenient myth.

The subtitle makes it clear we are going to get apocalyptic war between daemons and demi-gods but ADB writes so much more than bolter porn.

True, Master of Mankind doesnt necessarily mean the Emperor, but seing as its about the webway war i feel its a good bet to be based around him. Going back briefly to what Helterskeleter said on the audio drama Malcador, being inside his head would no doubt potentially ruin the setting to, I get the impression he knows most, if not everything, the Emperor is working towards, pluws the secrets of the past, such as the real story of the primarch creation and disapearence.

Really have been disappointed at the way the Heresy books have been. There are some shining lights but other than that disappointed. So no I'am not excited.

Yeah we can barely get past Isstvaan or the shattered legions. Vengeful Spirit and UE moved the plot up a bit, but it still feels stuck in "Oh crap! There are traitors!!!" Rather than "Let's go fight some traitors and get to Terra!"

Just my feelings.
