GodEmperorOfMankind
Hi all I have a forge world hydra flakk platform I just won and I want to take it apart as its been assembled poorly. However the glue has formed a solid bond (seems like generic superglue rather than epoxy two part glue) and I'm at a loss as to how I take it apart without breaking the resin. Any ideas would be much appreciated Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313003-ungluing-resin/ Share on other sites
klisof
Put it in the freezer overnight, superglue becomes brittle when cold enough. You should be able to start separating model parts then as long as you are careful. I've not had to do this with anything bigger than a terminator but it worked very well for them. Good luck! GodEmperorOfMankind
Will the resin not also become brittle at low temps? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313003-ungluing-resin/#findComment-4158684 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
A little, try to wedge from in the gaps rather than pulling on pieces. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313003-ungluing-resin/#findComment-4158688 Share on other sites
SW1
I've used the freezer trick to take apart resin that's been well superglued together. A wedge in the joint an a light tap with a hammer and it popped apart. I'd use a pin hammer on something so small rather than a normal household hammer. Gurth
Whatever you do, you’d probably best stay away from solvents. Acetone, for example, is often recommended because it will dissolve superglue, but it has the slight problem that it dissolves polyurethane resin too — which people who recommend acetone will usually not know about. If you do need to try a solvent, first put some scrap resin (preferably a piece of sprue from the actual kit) in it overnight to make sure it won’t affect that.
