What is a 'fluffy' AL list?

AL doesn't mind bringing anything to the table when fighting an opponents, tricksy units and strange tactics are fine, as well as standard deployments, tank companies, artillery, infantry...anything goes really! :)

Take the tools to get the job done!

Hydra dominatus, For the Emperor!!!

the short answer:

"And what Atia, does the Alpha Legion use?"

*removes my hood*

Everything ....

the long answer:

use whatever you want - you can make a massive infantry assault, a sneeky scout army, a tank army, a flier supported army, or like i plan, an elite army (representing the Laerneans) consisting of Veterans, Terminators, Dreadnoughts and Breachers aswell as special Laernean Breachers smile.png - or a mix of it tongue.png

All the above and you get to steal your favourite unit from another Legion!

yeah, that's what i meant with Laernean Breachers :D (think i'll use either medusan immortals all with volkites - or phalanx warders with power axes for the rules of cool lol) ... and there are also Ultramarine or IW cyclone Terminators whistlingW.gif

Had a feeling that's what you meant! I always want to do AL to get all the unique units, but I know I'll end up with one of all of the unique Legion squads.... Only able to use a single one in a game ><

it depends on what your playing. rule of thumb, bring the exact same models as the enemy in the exact same color scheme on the exact same bases and have the enemy confused throughout the entire thing. also claim every squad he tries to fire with belongs to you.

Given the numbers and flexibility of 30K Legions compared to the size of any given force actually fielded on the tabletop, pretty much any list can be perfectly fluffy, and there are no typical lists.  You might be able to put together a distinctive list by using the units and rites unique to your legion, but it wouldn't be any more fluffy than a force comprising entirely of post-purge Terran Word Bearers called Gary (ok that might be pushing it, but given a bit of imagination nothing in the background rules it out).

Pick out some units you love and build a theme around them.  It's much more satisfying (and fluffy) to build an Alpha Legion siege list or an Alpha Legion armour list than it is to build some mythical standardised Alpha Legion force.
