mcpolle
Hi guys, Was wondering if anyone knows of any nice templates out there for a knight and his arcs for shooting. Thinking of the 22.5 degrees, from each weapon. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313056-template-for-knight-shooting/ Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Use the Flamer Template. It has a 45 degree angle on the lower part of the top circle which can be used to test the arc. Alternatively, there are those Warhammer Fantasy line of sight templates, that check if your regimental base can see the opponent. They use a 45 degree template, but most also have a way to check 22.5 degrees. jeffersonian000
Why 22.5 degrees? The 45 degree arc is side to side, top to bottom, netting a 90 degree cone. If you are only measuring 22.5 degrees side to side, you are limiting yourself to a 45 degree cone. CommodusXIII
Arc is the complete range of motion, not from the centerline. There are some handy graphics in the Rulebook under Vehicle Weapons and Line of Sight. This particular example is Arc of Sight 1. Now, the Rulebook also states that "players should assume that the guns on a vehicle are free to rotate or swivel on their mountings". This is also demonstrated in the same graphic referenced above, under Arc of Sight 2. Unlike Dreadnoughts and Sentinels, the Knights can rotate at the elbow. This would give them a much larger field of fire. This gets a bit murky with RAW versus RAI. The rules for Walkers (and by association, Super Heavy Walkers) state that they have a fire arc of 45 degrees, period. Personally, I think that this was meant for Dreadnoughts, Sentinels, and the rest of the majority that have fixed weapons and doesn't take into account Knights with their elbows. Discuss it with your opponent and come to an amicable solution - if it were me, I'd have no problem with the wider arcs. It makes more sense based on the model and the descriptions of Knights in the fluff. Frater Cornelius
Tourneys around here give the IK a 180° line of sight on his arm guns. What is means is that he can not shoot backwards and his hull-mounted Stubber is limited, but the big guns have their freedom.
