I don't do this often, but I had to show y'all this piece, just in case you haven't seen it yet.

Holy tapdancing crap, that's a beautiful thing. FW really need to get off their duffs and make this a reality.

Very cool pic – where's it from? The bannerpole's slightly making my eye twitch, with the banner on the back of the pole and the XIV (thought I guess that could be fourteenth squad or something), but maybe it blew over or something. Aside from that minor and petty detail, it looks fantastic! Good old peahead pattern :)

I wonder whether Arkonak pattern is a nod to one of the other prototype Terminator models?

There was some cool art for those:

It's ok, visions dies ec with a massive II on their pads in a few pictures, don't get to hung up on the small stuff I guess!

don't get to hung up on the small stuff

Absolutely! In truth, I kinda like the slightly shonky bits of some older artwork, particularly that of Rogue Trader era. There's an immediacy and honesty to it that's quite removed from more polished modern stuff. It's clear it's by enthusiastic amateurs (like many of us) with a real love of the universe :)

My favourite is this peahead Terminator with 'Revenebo' written on his shoulder pad. I always suspected that it was intended to be a panel reading 'revenge' but the artist ran out of space and decided to turn it into a painted-on bit of grafitti :)

I could see them giving Saturnine/Arkonak to a special character/formation (possibly Space Wolves?), but probably not as another armour for your average Terminator Squad to use. But hey, you never know. :p

I mean, I'm still hoping once FW are done with the Heresy and Scouring they'll open up to doing the Unification Wars/early Great Crusade. Love me some Thunder Armour. :p

It's even better: "revenebo" is pig-Latin for "I will be back". You know, because Terminator armor.

Haha that's really good, is it true?

I may have to paint this onto one of my contemptors now though!

Yes indeed, the older stuff is done by guys who just liked the whole thing, and didn't have degrees in art and computer design etc like they do nowadays, it's in days before those things.

Not to say that what we have now is crap at all, it just has that little bit of a personal touch on them. Just like revenbo!
