Gree
So I got an Imperial Knight kit last month for my birthday. Unfortunately due to miscommunication with my family they had purchased the older Knight Paladin kit instead of the new Knight Warden kit. I did not feel like spending the extra money to purchase all those extra bits off Ebay so I just assembled it as a Paladin. This means it has two heavy stubbers instead of a stubber and a meltagun as I had originally planned. My question is if the meltagun is particularly worth it as an upgrade for the Knight? Or should I not worry about missing anything major in terms of game effectiveness. I have not yet actually used a Knight yet in my games and I was wondering if people found it particularly useful. Frater Cornelius
I would not call it a must-take, but on a Paladin, it can work. You have a second Stubber and the Melta Gun can pop a transport or help finish it so that you can charge the dudes inside. So go ahead, it is well worth it on a Paladin, but I would not go out of my way to get one. When point get tight, it would be one of the first upgrades to go on my list. CommodusXIII
Personally, I've never reaped any benefit from upgrading to the meltagun. That's a combination of my playstyle and local meta, so your mileage will vary. Vorenus
In my view, the main benefit from having Stubbers on a Knight is not to try to actually kill anything, but rather to "mark" a target you want to charge in the upcoming Assault phase. Put another way: If you want to use the big gun, chances are your target is too far away for you to assault. If you are using the big gun on a target that is close enough to assault, you may end up killing it or causing the target to fall back, thus depriving you of the opportunity to assault. But if you use the Stubber, you probably won't kill anything, so you mark that target so you can assault it. Knights are OK at shooting, but where they really make their points back is in assault, with their D chainswords and most importantly their Stomp attacks. If you place the Stomp blast templates carefully, you can hit targets that are not even locked in your assault and can be about 10" away. jeffersonian000
Just put a magnet in place of the barrel for the stubbed mount, and a magnet or nail on a meltagun barrel. That way you can swap the stubber for the melta as needed. SJ While I appreciate the advice, I have already assembled and glued the kit and I don't feel like going back and ripping the model apart for a single gun. jeffersonian000
You most have assembled yours way differently than I did mine, as I'm only talking about the ball turreted Stubber. But whatever. SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313271-imperial-knight-meltagun-upgrade/#findComment-4164351 Share on other sites
Riot Earp
I will ally my knight mainly with blood angels so i have enough melta. What i want to say. It depends on if you lack on antitank weapons. you measure the distance from the weapon so it could be difficult to get in proper meltarange. The stubber on the other side is nice to mark targets for assault or give lucky shots at fmc to get them grounded. I magnetice almost every weapon of the knight but im sure i will not use the melta upgrade so i glued it. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313271-imperial-knight-meltagun-upgrade/#findComment-4164682 Share on other sites
