Dramatis Personae:

Barron Edwyrd Hawkshroud - Accipiter Dominus

Lord Robear Hawkshroud - Arbiter Illumine

Sir Aldred Hawkshroud - Peritum Venator

Sir Trystyn Hawkshroud - Ire Aeternae

Sir Baldwyn Catharus - Persequentem Vis

Boar’s Rock is the name of the holdfast held by a minor off-shoot of house Hawkshroud on the Knight-world of Krastellan. Set on a cliff with storm-wracked seas to the west, craggy hills to the north and east and rolling grasslands to the south, it is well placed to keep watch over the lands and people that fall under the protection of the nobles of the Rock. The majority of the populace who fall under the protectorate of Boar’s Rock live in small farming communities on the grasslands and tend their herds of heath-cattle or grow crops of root vegetables in the dark soil. Other communities cling to the rocky shores up and down the coast making their living by fishing the rough seas. While up in the hills, live the clannish hill-folk who hunt brutal crag-boars for meat and furs. Each community will pay a tithe of their produce to the Lord of Boar’s Rock, and in return gain his protection, for any who threaten a loyal subject will find a truly terrible foe arrayed against them in the form of the nobles of the Hawkshrouds of Boar’s Rock.

Around the time our glorious emperor was embarking upon his Great Crusade, Boar’s Rock was the seat of house Catharus, a small but ancient house on the verge of disappearing, as Lord Humphry of the Rock had been slain with his only son whilst campaigning in the stars. The minor nobles of the house immediately began politicking in order to wrest control from the widowed Lady of the house, Margareet. Desperate for assistance the Lady of the Rock petitioned the then Viscount of house Hawkshroud to intercede on her behalf to ensure that her beloved Lord’s legacy did not end in bitter infighting as the nobles of the house tore it apart in their efforts to take power. Ever a shrewd man, Viscount Uron saw an opportunity to uphold his honour bound duty to assist an ally, whilst simultaneously increasing the holdings of house Hawkshroud. He immediately vowed to restore order to Lady Margareet’s household and to seal the agreement, he offered to betroth his youngest son to her daughter Kataryne, giving the Rock a lord of the purest noble blood and highest standing. Margareet saw the arrangement for what it was, but she had petitioned the Viscount for help and he had agreed to assist thus she was unable to deny him without impinging both of their honour.

So it was then that the knights of house Hawkshroud descended on Boar’s Rock with full pomp and ceremony. At their head strode Viscount Uron, flanked by his two sons, on his right came his heir Arthire and on his left his second son Edwyrd who had come to claim a bride and a Lordship. The Viscount had come as a diplomat, but the overwhelming number of yellow armoured knights arrayed outside the walls of the stronghold made it perfectly clear that the succession of Lordship of house Catharus was settled. House Catharus, while not the smallest of houses, was at that point only a fraction of the size of house Hawkshroud, and their crimson armoured warriors were outnumbered three to one even by the Viscount’s honour guard. The nobles of the Rock for their part ceased their scheming immediately, as none wished to make an enemy of the Viscount for which Lady Margareet was rightly grateful, even though she harboured grave concerns that she had whored out her house in order to save it. Her concerns proved to be more than justified when Uron declared that house Catharus, would fall under the protection of house Hawkshroud form the day of Edwyrd & Kataryne’s wedding onward. The threat went without being said, that unless house Catharus accepted Edwyrd Hawkshroud as their new Lord, Margareet could expect no help from the Viscount. However heavy her heart may be she knew that decorum must be maintained, and so she bowed graciously to the Viscount and thanked him for his kind intersession, and for honouring her and her house with such a noble good-son and Lord.

Edwyrd & Kataryne, were immediately taken with each other and while her mother harboured her concerns about the future of her house, Kataryne was thrilled with her handsome young Lord and the imminent elevation in her standing to Lady of the house. Edwyrd, in a grand display in honour of his new bride and to show solidarity with his new house had his Knight suit repainted in the reversed colours of house Catharus, white with a crimson slash, though he kept the black hawk of his father’s house as his symbol rather than adopting the crossed keys of his wife’s house. Manny of the younger knights of house Catharus followed Edwyrd’s example and reversed the colours on their knight suits, proudly displaying their allegiance with their crimson crossed keys on a field of purest white. The distinction between those veteran knights of house Catharus, and those who wished to court favour with their new lord was marked in this way initially, the colour of their heraldry marking them apart, but Edwyrd had ever been a great respecter of ability, and there was no doubt as to his ability as a leader of men and a warrior in his own right, therefore the respect he showed all of his new men, white and crimson armoured alike, coupled with his heroic leadership to victory after victory brought more and more of his knights into his inner circle, and within a few years, the whole house had adopted the reversed heraldry. And by the time Edwyrd and Katarine’s firstborn son was ready to undergo the trial of becoming, the distinction between Hawkshroud and Catharus had all but disappeared. To honour the memory of house Catharus, Edwyrd amended his son’s personal heraldry to show a quartered design showing the black hawk on a white field for Edwyrd’s own modified Hawkshrouds heraldry and the white crossed keys on a crimson background of house Catharus. This from then on became the heraldry of the Hawksrouds of Boar's Rock.

I previously started this project log on another forum, so rather than go over the process I went through to get where I am now, you can read what I have on the following link, if you so desire.

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?392783-Macloren-s-Knight-Plog&s=e33c41859614314e5d953459cb3f8771

After discussion with some friends who post here, I decided to switch over to Bolter & Chainsword to continue the project. I’m currently concentrating on my Iron Warrior project, but the noble knights of Boar’s Rock are next on my Hobby Hit-list.

Here are some pictures of my first knight, who will be joined shortly by another four of his Kinsmen.

Lord Robear Hawkshroud in Arbiter Illumine.

I decided to magnetise the weapon options on this one, so I can field him as either a Knight Paladin:

Or a Knight Errant:

This project has been on hiatus for some time while I was working on some other stuff, but I decided to make the Knights of the Rock my priority now, so I'll be working exclusively on these for the next few months to get the project complete.

I've picked up three more Knights, and I have a Lancer on the way from FW too who will be the Baron of Boar's Rock.

Updates to follow shortly.

@deathspectersgt7: thanks man, I'm pretty pleased with how the white turned out. Ceramite White is a gods send. :biggrin.:

@Kassill: Me too! which is good, because that's the topic of this update! Yay!

Happy days, my final knight arrived in the post! Woo! Annoyingly I got sent the wrong one, which I guess you could lose your :censored: over, but one of my buddies has offered to do a bits swap with me, so It's all good.

Right then, here's where I'm at as of the re-boot of my Knight project. This will give me a 2,000 point force comprising of five nobles of the household of the Baron of Boar's Rock.

Wish me luck!

@kizzdougs: Thanks man, that's really nice of you to say. Glad to you like him, the decals were a bit of a new experience for me, as before this I had sworn off them for years after pretty bad experiences with trying to get Chapter symbols on shoulder pads!

I've made some progress, honest! But most of what I've been doing hasn't been very interesting. Just building the torsos and weapons for the second knight, but tonight I made some awesome progress on the cool bits that I know you lot are more interested in, I did my first Knight-leg conversation! Wooooo!!!!!!

I must say, I'm actually pretty pleased how it turned out, though I learned a few things that make the next two better. I'll get some pics up tomorrow for you to cast your collective eye over, but for now, I'm off to bed!

"Look ye to the West. See ye how the horizon doth burn mightily? 'Tis my sons making glorious war there, I have summoned them hither and on the morrow we ride fourth to battle thy grievous foe. Tomorrow, my friend, shalt though have thy victory."

(Attributed to Lord Robear Hawkshroud, upon receiving a request for support form Imperial Army commander Pontius Viitrix during the Drummon Conflict.)

I'm at a point now where I have most of the work done on Lord Robear's two sons' faithful mounts. So I'll be able to start painting soon! I'm thinking that I'll finish all five before I really get into painting, but I should be able to at least get the base spray done on these to in the next couple of days.

I've been working on Baron Edwyrd's Knight Titan in the background so he's almost at the same point, meaning that I only have one to go to give me my full Baronial Court.

Exciting times.

I love how your fluff texts are regal and righteous and mine for my custom Legion's basically just "Here mate, look who I just stabbed in the bum".

"Behold friend, the hated foe whose ignoble backside mine sword hath found it's sheath within!"

Progress has been a little slow these past few days, but I got some hobby time in last night and made a bit of progress on my basing and I got the core assembly finished for Lord Robear's two sons.

His eldest son, the patient and contemplative, Sir Aldred.

And Lord Robear's younger son, the impetuous and glory hungry, Sir Trystyn.

So I need to finish the basses of these two then I'll get them sprayed up and move on to the Baron himself!

"I hath routed thy foe from the field Commander, the way is clear for thy men to continue this great endeavour. Alas I fear that I hath left thee little sport amongst thine enemies and taken the greater share of glory for mine house. But t'is here I must leave thy company, as the son of my great Lord hath summoned me hence to attend upon him, thus may I tarry here no longer. Farewell Commander, may thee find some glory amongst these sorry wretches I hath left for thee."

- Attributed to Sir Baldwyn Catharus of house Hawkshroud after the cleansing of site GF-46, during the Drummond conflict. Imperial records indicate that Sir Baldwyn was responsible for 37 armour kills during the day long battle.

So I finished all three of my 'Mars pattern' knights and I did the bulk of my lancer too. I had a really productive morning getting all four sprayed up. I'll sort the pics and get em up shortly.

@Kassill thanks man, it's nice to look back and see the progress you're making right? My first knight was a bit of a labour of love, so it'll be interesting to do the next four essentially as a batch! ;-)

Right, time to get some more progress on operation paint-bot.

Ive got my plates all lined up, and I really wanna get going and start the white on the plates, but before I do that, I need to finish the armour on the Knight's Skeletons.

There we have em, one complete knight with his naked kinsmen!

Don't worry guys, they're mostly 'armless!

And off I go!
