a good opposing force for white scars

Now I'm trying to choose an opposing force to fight my white scars, as I'm looking at moving from the city out towards the outback due to work.

I've been offered a job at pt Augusta which is around 300 km north of adelaide.

Now there's no hobby scene or stores up there so I need to make a force and table to play against myself... yes its sad but it's a start.

So I'm thinking Sons of Horus, Emperors Children or word bearers.

What seems the right choice.

Emperors children; a similar army theme which I can use despoilers jetbikes and light Armoured Tanks

Sons of Horus; heavily Armoured force with recon and heavy Weapons to fight the advance of white scars.

Word bearers; a beastly aspect that I could use as the prey of the white scars?

So thoughts?

pt Augusta is in the finders Rangers on the most inland part of the morning to peninsula and is the gateway to the outback and has breathtaking natural ranges bushland scrub, this means hunting camping hiking fishing and big properties. Now everything would have to be shipped there and I might get the occasional game when my brothers visit or cousins mates come up to visit.

Well, Word bearers always make the best evil villains. But if you want something with a bit more gravitas, I'd recommend Sons of Horus. The Khan and his sons were closest to Horus and his Legion. There would be some great story telling opportunities by having your Scars fight against the only Legion They had any great kinship with.

Emperors Children sound like a good choice to me. In Scars there's a cool exchange between Fulgrim & the Khan, where Khan basically verbally knocks him down a peg saying that he'd beat Fulgrim in a duel. There's definitely grounds for rivalry there. Word Bearers have no personal connection to the White Scars at all, and the Sons of Horus could be suitable given their past friendship with the White Scars.

My first thought was EC, but I think that's cuz I'm partial as an EC player. Having like armies I think would do you a disservice here. Having another style like DG or the Sons of Horus will provide much more. The ability to get a wider variety of units in your collection should round you as a player. And hopefully lure another wayward soul to game against. My vote goes DG. Great fun to convert and paint. And the complete other side of the coin gameplay wise.

Depending on how nurgly you want to make the Heresy era DG, they will have a paint scheme very similar to the WS. So you might want to do something different.

Playing against yourself might not be so enjoyable, but without the start up cost your co-workers or some people in the area might be interested in finding out what this game is all about. So offer to let them play one of your armies against you.

Emperor's Children all the way. Didn't the WS primarily engage the EC during the Siege of Terra? Pretty sure the EC went out reaving the population instead of besieging the palace and the WS used their speed to engage them and halt some of the atrocities. Maybe that's just head-canon but I could swear that's from old fluff.

Also, purple is awesome. Where else were you going to paint purple in Warhammer?

My only issue with the DG is that I'm tired of painting light colored armies and honestly the characters won't fit into my planned battle board with there deck type bases.

The EC however might work.

The Sons are an existing army I'd just have to add to so I'm thinking they would be easiest.

The word bearers are something I could work with allying in Deamons etc for variety

Alpha Legion.

I recall the Alpha's killing White Scar jetbikers , while the Scars were hunting Orks and throwing the corpses into lava to cover up their work.

Also the Alphas were sent to pin the Khan & the Wolf in place After Prospero.

Plus you can collect and build them how you like (Legion rule lets you use another legion unit as your own, so plenty to experiment with). Plus you havent collected them yet and they have some awesome looking models.

Technically, color-wise White Scars are a very bright white color while Death Guard are more of a bone color. I can understand not wanting to have two white armies, however. If not Death Guard, I'd say Sons of Horus. They're the arch-nemesis, and Horus was the Khan's BFF PRe-Heresy, so I can see a lot of hurt feelings there. Emperor's Children may be kind of interesting to paint, but I find the army in general very lackluster. As far as Scars vs. Alpha Legion, all evidence points to that being Omegon's fleet, which were actually assisting the Vth. In any case, it could still be an interesting opposing force, what with all their trickery.

Death Guard are a beautiful Legion and one day I'd like to give them attention. I just don't feel they are right for this idea.

I'm thinking purple would be fun to paint especially adding Kakophoni and Palatine Blades Pheonix Guard and Eidolon.

But Sons of horus also have there appeal.

I just can't see Horus and Abaddon in combat fluff wise whereas I can see the sire of the 3rd getting down and dirty against the khan

+1 to the vote for EC.

To me, purple and white just go well together. It will also be a nice contrast to see the 'uncouth barbarians' of the V up against the prim, proper, perfect III. Kind of like the Jantine Patricians up against the Tanith First and Only...
