Hello this is my regiment thread where I will post battle reports and other things such as fluff, models,conversions etc.

 

The first battle report

 

 

I played against a friend at my local GW he let me borrow the IG codex to try it out. It was a friendly game so the points where not equal these are the lists:

We played just kill points and I won the roll off and went first

I deployed my plasma and bare vets in a line in some woods the flamers in a chimera with the commisar to the left behind them came my command squad with primaris with divination(I think perfect timing and something else) behind the chimera was the Russ.

 

He deployed his models as one big unit in the middle of the board behind a ruined wall.

 

First turn I moved my russ into some trees which promptly immobilised it:(

Then I moved the chimera up flat out and the rest stayed put. I shot the entirety of my autocannons at the blob of special characters and other nasties which did nothing a lascannon shot felled a terminator.

His movement phase he moved his dudes up and ran towards my chimera. His psyker cast shrouding and the he ended his turn.

 

My movement saw the flamers jump out and flame some honour guard killing one and the chimera shot it's multilaser to no avail. My autocannons and russ shot and killed a terminator and another honour guard

My now In range plasma guns toasted one more honour guard (I can't remember how many there were but I think there was one left) and then the master of ordinance shot and killed the last honour guard which granted me first blood and one kill point.

 

He moved his men towards my flamers and attempted an assualt I did no damage on over watch and prepared myself for the worst but then miraculously he rolled snake eyes on his charge rolls(hahaha).

My turn. I moved my flamers back Into the chimera and moved it back to help prevent a second assualt then I opened up my line again felling a terminator and removing a wound from the librarian.

His turn. He realised he had an orbital strike to use which he did on my chimera which scattered one inch! The resulting explosion killed my vets and commisar giving him slay the warlord and three kill points .

After this the shop had to close as it was 6 o'clock (closing time) so he narrowly won by 4-2.

 

In hindsight I think I should have given the leman russ a dozer blade and I should remember to use orders and psychic powers.

 

So what do you guys think?

Ah, the classic turn one immobilisation. We've all seen it at once point :P Remembering rules and powers is always worthwhile but comes with more practice :) His list wasn't a great one to go up against with yours but as great as AP2 is at dealing with elite armour values (and we can get a fair bit of AP2 if we want) don't forget that Terminators and the like fall to failed saves just as much as anything else. Being expensive and smaller squads each loss is greatly felt so when in doubt throw dice at something until it goes away :lol:

 

Target prioritisation is always key, do you think you picked the right targets for your shooting? Mechanisation is something best done in greater number so that might be worth considering in the future especially for a Vet army. Against expensive and elite units you'll want to leverage your numbers - try and force your opponent's hand and isolate/block his units so you can gang up on his and take the army apart piece by piece.

This list is just a staring list in a few weeks I will be buying a couple of empire hand gunners to use as normal infantry but I'm unsure of what I can use that is empire themed for a platoon command squad advice is greatly appreciated

Sounds like you did the imperium proud. I wouldn't recommend the dozer blade just keep your tank in the open and trust in its armour 14. The lascannon is probably a waste on the Russ.

 

I would also drop the autocannon on the vets with plasma so you can keep them mobile. Otherwise not a bad beginner list. Keep playing to find what suits you the best. You can list build from the net but gaming is the best way to learn (and have fun)

 

Chimeras are probably going to be a good investment if you want to keep running veterans.

Depends how you use the bits, I'm not particularly familiar with the WHFB range so I can't say how well they'll work together. The trick with using more "historical" models is to 40k them up a bit, something as simple as a few Guard bits goes a long way. The bottles/knives bit is popular for good reason but you can expand with shoulder pads or the odd lasgun etc if you feel like branching out :)

The new plan for my guardsmen is to have it split in two the heavy armour and artillery will be the cadians with berets and the fast attack will be catachans.

Cool posts so far. Loved the battle report. I read his list (all of that +2 save) and then saw your Executioner. I smiled, really, I did. Then I saw that it got immobilized on turn one. From that point on, I was hearing yakety sax in my head while reading the rest.

I've got 21 vets 2 autocannons 2 mortars and a chimera.

Also I wanted the leman to look like it been going through the snow I have mourn mountain snow and practical white but I don't know how to simulate the effect.

Also I have 15 catachans to paint because I got some models from a friend to make a command squad and I ordered a 10 man squad of catachans pre built from miniture men on ebay for 12 pounds including postage and they were well made and based in sand and I'm very pleased with their service they arrived two days early aswell.

What do you think of the list?

Plasma and mortar is a bit of an odd mix, I'd rather take plasma squads and put the mortars in a HWS. Then they can sit back on an objective/cover and annoy your opponent letting your infantry squads be more mobile. Otherwise it's not a bad list for squeezing in what models you've got. Keep your Vets safe as they're your only heavy AT!

Yh I could get rid the special weapons squads and use th lasgun guys as men for the infantry squads but hen what do I do with the remaining 3 flamers and snipers.

Also that vet squad is a beast at taking out tanks given the chance. Last game I played it killed two normal leman russes and pask in a punisher In one turn of shooting and assualt!
