You can still direct fire it and ignore the minimum range, where it becomes a slightly more powerful battle cannon. When in doubt the standard Russ fills most AT requirements, so that's my go to for armoured might leaving only the likes of melta to consider for popping the heaviest of armour. Melta Vets are good so for this type of list I'd probably look at them. Most of your army will want to be getting close so some pie plates might not be a good idea.

For tackling transports and the like autocannons are reliable and inexpensive, but your plasma will do a good job too albeit at less range. There are quite a few AT options to maybe best to decide how you'd like to deploy it first?

I didn't know that you could ignore the minimum range if direct firing.

I did want another learn russ to go with my catachan 'city' fighters and it would help with the anti tank and also I can use it like my current one and have it completely interchangeable.

I have bought some necromunda ganger from a friend and have the idea to use them as scions.

Here are the models one is just a plastic catachan though.https://goo.gl/photos/rr1YWaswtLTNskXYA

I painted the catachan and the ganger with a pick.

Do you think they would make good enough stand ins as catachan style scions

When I play I discuss my army list with my opponent and use special weapons(such as flamers and sniper rifles) as other special weapons....aka all special weapons in my entire army are meltas regardless of what they actually look like.

I too am converting an Warhammer Empire army into a PDF force, personally the Men at Arms are my favorite, they just scream militia/pdf. I use my old greatswords as leaders or just guys who could afford better armor. Mix in some imperial guard bits, or buy some lasguns to mix in with the old rifles and it works great. Doesnt look to out of place.
