alpha legion 1000 points starter list

So I have been fiddling around with lists and have come up with the following:

This list is a base to build up to the coils of the hydra and i am looking for feedback. have i missed anything crucial or is there room for improvement?

HQ - 95

Centurion with early crusade honours w power dagger and venom spheres ~ This guy goies with the large tac blob

Troop - 425

10 tac marines w melta bomb ~ backfield objective holder

15 tac marines w extra cc weapon, artificer armour, power fist, melta bomb, power dagger and vexilla ~ board advance unit

Elite - 270

Apothecary w artificer armour, power sword, venom spheres and augury scanner ~ joins large tac blob

Contemptor Mortis Dread w Dual Kheres and havoc launcher ~ support the midfield and large tac blob and anti air/light tank

Fast Attack - 210

Primaris-Lightning Strike Fighter w 2x 2 kraken missiles, battle servitor control and ground-tracking auguries ~ anti heavy armour/air

I really like this list has a bunch of fun models and combined arms tactics really fits the style of the legion - will prob go with the either infiltrate or tank hunter depending on the enemies army.

so far i have the centurion, the apothecary and the contemptor dread.  Probably going to wait it out for the horus heresy standalone game to get the marines. and maybe try to convinc ethe wife to get me the plane for xmas.

Infiltrate is strong, but only the big Tactical blob will get much out of it (as the other unit is likely sitting backfield).

Given the Centurion's Warlord Trait, I'd try to find the 30 points for additional combat blades on the blob. 3 attacks each on the charge with +1 to wound is nice! Maybe lose the Contemptor's havoc launcher and the Apothecary's power sword & venom spheres to pay for them?

For 1000 points, it's hard to make 30k work, but this list looks really good!

well looks like i forgot to actually write that the large tac squad has the extra cc weapon. so no problem there!

also the centruion has a power dagger and venom spheres to gain that extra power fist attack!

its actually exactly 1000 points

ill edit my first list

I find skor works well for smaller 30k list. His ROW was built for small games. For bigger games I run Dynat but switch between the 2 of them often. We lucked out with skor and Dynat there some of best HQ in game.

If you plan on running COH you need 3 troop choices. The troop tax is the biggest downside to COH.

How's this look?

Let's me build towards a larger force using CotH while not using my precious hobby dollars buying veterans.

It's basically the same but without the havoc launcher on the dread and the apothecary lost venom spheres and artificer armour.

Autilon Skorr 125

9 Tactical Space Marines: + 1 Tactical Sergeant (melta bombs) 155

14 Tactical Space Marines: chainswords; legion vexilla; + 1 Tactical Sergeant (artificer armour; power fist; power dagger) 270

Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought: 2 Kheres pattern assault cannons 180

Apothecarion Detachment

• Apothecary: power sword; augury scanner 60

Primaris-Lightning Strike Fighter: 2× 2 kraken penetrator heavy missiles; battle servitor control; ground-tracking auguries 210

Saving $ just build few extra bodies with special weapons or heavy weapons so you interchange normal tac or veterans.

If your running COtH list you need 3 troop choice. If using other row your list looks good at 1000

So if you want build COH at 1000. You going to have drop either the lighting or dread and add another tac sq. That's hard call. In 1000 that lighting could save the day knocking something your tactical can't hurt or end up being over kill.

The dread can dump out ton of shots and take in tactical blobs and light armor, kept still if there air threat.

Dropping one depends on what other bring at 1k.

Yeah it's tough to make coils list at 1000. I have struggle with 1850. Point wise one of best units to take for trators is iron havocs with ML, cheapest flak in the game -1 to cover saves. All around good unit 5 ML can dish out the damage. I found its worth upgrading the sgt to carry sigam for 1+ BS and interceptor rule.

As tempting as Rewards of Treason is, I can never get past the three tactical squads tax.  The Alpha Legion are all about Pride of the Legion for me - no room for filler.  Mass infiltrating sniper vets, terminators and support squads more than make up for not being able to steal units from other legions.

As for you lists, a few opinions:

I dislike giving Apothecaries power weapons because they only have one attack.  They're much more valuable on squad sergeants.

The Havoc Launcher on the Mortis doesn't really suit the role.  Hunter-killer missiles are good on units with intercept.

I like that you're making use of power daggers appropriately.  The easiest 5 points ever spent.

Very mission dependent, but I'd avoid thinking of your smaller tactical squad as purely a backfield objective holder.  In such a small list every unit has to pull its weight.  You can't have 15.5% of your list sitting out the game.

Dropping the havoc launcher and power sword would free up 25 points in my initial list - however i already dropped the havoc launcher in the second list.

I could use those points to outfit the second sergeant a little, but i think that may be a waste. Also i think the apothecary will get two attacks base due to having 2x cc weapons (boltpistol and powersword). so its twice as effective (could take down 2 marines without giving them a save) and it really only needs to gaurantee a single marine kill to be worth the cost IMO.

I agree on the not always using the small tac squad for the backfield - it would most definately be mission dependant, and is more of an example of their role.

I'm personally not as big a fan of pride of the legion - I love the feel of Coils of the Hydra so will definately be working towards that.

I really like the combinations that Autilon brings with his warlord trait allowing him to pick from the strategic table -added to the choice in mutable tactics means i can really tailor my tactics to the fight whatever it may be. Love it! I have always been a strategic gamer rather than a brute force player.

one more thing to note is that we are rumoured to be getting a FAQ/errata soon which hopefully will point towards which units will work better with alpha legion - i would love to see the headhunters get combi-weapons over combi-bolters for instance - would actually make them worth taking!

What TemujinZero means is that an Apothecary starts with only 1 attack, plus 1 for dual weapons. Any Veteran Sergeant starts with 2 attacks, plus 1 for dual weapons - a better return for those 10 points.

I'd take artificer armour on the Apothecary and the 1st Sergeant and melta bombs on the 2nd Sergeant (sometimes you really need that Armourbane over standard Strength 8).

I could give him a power dagger for AP3? but then he loses his second attackfor 2xcc weapons

or just remove the power sword and give the larger tac squada melta bomb (the small one has it already) and give the small squads sergeant a power dageer for a little ap3 in the squad in case of challenges.

Power daggers are great, but use them wisely, ie. with other Specialist Weapons. The list is fine really, it's just finetuning those last points and trying to get the most out of them.

If you take the Crusade Centurion, you can throw a few more items on things, like a power fist & dagger on the 2nd Sergeant and an Augury Scanner on the Apothecary. Artificer armour can really help keep a squad alive if you position them well, and melta bombs are a must in case someone throws a Contemptor into your Tacticals.
