Thedarkprincesnun
Hey guys I'm considering using my 40k csm as the start for my 30k legion army and was just wondering I use 5 man plague marine squads in 40k with 2 Special weapons. Is there anyway to do something similar in 30k? Sorry I don own the red books yet but this will influence my decison Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/ Share on other sites
Atia
you can have support squads all equipped with the same special weapon ;)^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4169024 Share on other sites
Thedarkprincesnun
Ah nice can they be compulsory troops or would I have to go unbound Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4169029 Share on other sites
Balthamal
Unfortunately they can't be compulsory troops and in HH Unbound is non-existent. Tactical Squads/Assault Squads and Breachers are currently the only valid compulsory troops outside of the RoW but given the next HH volume is supposedly containing a large number of generic and legion specific RoW that's likely to change Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4169032 Share on other sites
Thedarkprincesnun
Cheers guys looks like il have to get over my distaste of standard marines Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4169038 Share on other sites
Balthamal
I'd hold off until Retaliation is out and you can see what Rites of War are in there, could certainly have an effect on what you choose to take. Pride of The Legion mixes things up though as Veteran Squads and Terminator Squads count as troops Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4169062 Share on other sites
helterskelter
And there's always the delegatus and his ROW to get you started. 2x vet squads as standard troops with a special rule of your choice and plenty of toys to play with Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4169306 Share on other sites
RandomMarine
Pride of legion is a good place to start if you doing a 30k/40k crossover army Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4170807 Share on other sites

Atia
Cheers guys another question At what point in the heresy would te word bearers of started looking like the modern day csm pretty much as soon as Calth :P and they had an army of uber-possessed Gal Vorbak at Istvaan V :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4171510 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
I don't know about that Atia. The possessed marines may be more corrupted, but the legion at large would not be. They hadn't been exposed to the Eye. Helmet horns, spikes, etc would still be decoration. Look at the new FW character. His 'daemon face' is just decoration stretched over his features. SkimaskMohawk
Well the 40k CSM look is either decorations or mutations (or a combination of both). Word Bearers certainly had a lot of chaos influenced decoration post finding the Eye, though it was well hidden; by the time of Calth it was very widespread throughout the Legion. Actual mutation I think was nonexsistent outside of the Gal Vorbak until the Legion Wars. The thing with CSM is that it can be up to you to decide; did those horns and tusks mutate out of the armour/head of the legionnaire or did he attach them himself? Thedarkprincesnun
Cheers guys I may just go with a word bearers force I can get behind my "tactical support squad" having mutated armour especially with all the rituals they would most likely be taking part in Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313543-new-to-30k/#findComment-4171992 Share on other sites
