Lord Asvaldir
Decided to take the dive into 30k as I've become very unsatisfied with how the CSM codex does these days, plus I'd love to run a pure Word Bearers army, the theme of my CSM warband. I feel a bit overwhelmed though with the astonishing number of choices the crusade lists offers, and I'm not quite sure which direction to take. Certainly seems like going for an assault oriented army is the way to go with Word Bearers considering dark channeling and the number of mandatory HQs they have to take, but that still leaves a lot of options. I'm not sure whether I should go for an armored spearhead type list with a punch of assault units in land raiders, alpha strike list with lots of deep striking units, or a largely jump infantry list with lots of assault marines. There's also the Word Bearers right of war but I have to say it feels a bit underwhelming and restrictive, I'm not sure that's the best way to go. SkimaskMohawk
Word bearers' strengths are their reliable leadership, large amount of psykers, access to daemons and lorgars psychic shenanigans. Now because their strengths are fairly generic so a lot of different strategies and list building works. Divination and biomancy are favoured if you use low level psykers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/313591-best-way-to-run-word-bearers/#findComment-4170043 Share on other sites
Flint13
It entirely depends on what points level you'll be shooting for. Word Bearers can have a terrific control of the psychic phase at mid level points and up since they have (until Magnus at least) the only psyker primarch. Add Lorgar in with Erebus and/or a Librarian and you can have tons of fun tossing dice around. Lord Asvaldir
I've got a lot of models so I'm looking at doing 2-2.5k, maybe more if I can find opponents with large armies. So maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way. While Word Bearers do seem to have some strong assault elements, because of lots of psychic with divination they can have a fair amount of good shooting elements as well perhaps. I'd rather avoid daemon allies for now, but I guess with a preator, a chaplain and a librarian that's still 4 warp charges before diving into special characters. depthcharge12
Run daemon/Ashen circle bonanza with Zardu Lyak. Take a Bloodthirster and watch your enemy cower in fear. That is all. Lord Asvaldir
I don't really want to run daemons, 30k really appeals to me more than the CSM 40k codex because you really can make a solid list without running using any daemon allies, or summoning daemons (which I don't have the models for anyway). I'd rather find a solid way to run Word Bearers with no daemons before maybe going down that road later.
