Skulls, bodies and flayed body parts for 30k Night Lords

Oh hai... So excuse the thread title!

However, genuinely looking for bits to represent the aforementioned skulls, bodies, flayed / dismembered limbs, etc etc.

Mostly for a Night Lords project.

If you happen to know of any sources of such things, please point me in the right direction - GW kits, 3rd part bits, etc etc - all suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thank you kind people :)

Shame the GW zombies are so old and rubbish I don't even know if I'd use them for corpses! ;) the skeletons are decent though and (surprisingly!) there's a load of skulls in there. Doesn't really work for the... Wetter specimens you might want on your vehicles though.

If you have a check on the first page of The Murderer's call, there's a link to Augustus' tutorial on making flayed flesh from gs. Apart from that zombie kit is good, and you can always find skulls from other suppliers.

If you want flayed body parts, a method someone at my store uses is to get a typical zombie/mortal (non astartes size) arm, wrap it in a thin layer of green stuff, and sculpt lines onto it to represent the muscle, and with the layer of gs it'll turn out looking the right thickness for flayed arms with armour taken off. And just paint it liberally with BftBG

As a long time Chaos player and probably an unhealthy level of fan in the addition of skulls, dismembered parts and such (perhaps its my original roots as a Night Lord, who knows?) I've taken a lot of time to find the best tools for this job. Here's a few of my compiled list.

Of course, you have your more standard options. While dated, the GW Zombies are a pretty decent option. They show their age but they work. Alternative to them, though they sometimes need a bit of work, are the Ghouls. They actually do a pretty good job, personally. They have the emaciated frame of a corpse and if you want to dismember them for parts, get right to it. The small issue is the torsos are kinda unusable due to their hunched over form and their hands are a bit too clawed for a standard human hand. There's also the Vampire Count Skeletons. While they're not good for fresh corpses, I've  bought like three of these boxes over the years because they're an awesome supply of skulls and bones, a great addition for any Traitor Marine. There are, of course, other options like Space Marine and Guard bits to use for such things. When it comes to the Heresy for trophies, I find myself in love with upgrade sprues. Just buy some (in my case, Ultramarine) helmets by themselves and slap them on.

On to third parties, and something a bit more specific, there's Secret Weapon Miniatures. I'll be honest when I say that most of their stuff tends to not to appeal to me. However, they have two specific sets that I've picked up more than once. The first thing to keep in mind is that, for what you're getting, they're really expensive. Whether the morbid asthetic is worth the price or not to you is purely up to you. The first is the Sack O' Skulls. This is exactly what you expect it is. It's a sack of skulls. Not much more to say, is there. They're pretty good quality, though if I were to say compare them to the skulls from the Vampire Count Skeleton set, I would say they're a bit lower quality. Despite that, the bag comes with generally around 50 skulls in it. Not too bad, especially if you're playing a Khorne army. :P The next one, and I came across these because of the board's resident Night Lord player, Augustus; the Sack O' Corpses. There are some very very nice quality body parts, really usable for a more fresh kill. I've picked up three bags of them over time and I love using them because of the detail. Now, an important thing to keep in mind is the bloody price. While very detailed, its not a lot of stuff. Only 4 torsos (one with a head), one severed head, and a small assortment of limbs. All of that for $20. You're kind of paying almost Forgeworld premium price for them, certainly something I'd recommend but not the way to go if you're a hobbyist on a budget.

Last on our list is Manic Games. I haven't looked too much into Manic games until more recently after I saw a guy at a local gamestore playing his Plague zombies with models bought from Manic. I was extremely impressed by the quality of the miniatures, and, once I had a look at the webstore, even more impressed by their price. For a box of 40 rather good quality Zombies, take a guess on what your asking price is? Bet you didn't guess $40 (or 25 quid for my UK brothers and sisters) Its a hell of a deal. Another option to consider is their Ghouls, which can also make for pretty good parts. Once again 20 Ghouls for $25 (or 15 quid.) Still quite the price, if I'm honest.

Well, that's my little review (or two cents, rather.) Hope this helps!

Crickey, thanks folks! An amazing community response there with some great pointers. Particular thanks to Noctus Cornix for what was essentially an encyclopaedic post on the subject!

I will be sure to post some of the eventual results on here somewhere by way of thanks.

Murderer's Call is an excellent resource to get ideas from and I can attest to the flesh trophy tutorial. I'd also recommend looking through Dan the Deamon's and Augustus' threads as they have awesome ideas.

Additionally the kroot range have some great hanging meats and bones, while the DE helions have some hanging skulls. The new devestator cherub can also be made into a great dead baby msn-wink.gif

Thanks Atia! I had no idea they did that, but then I suspect I should have given GW's propensity for skulls!

Terminus - that was a daaark response :P

SkimaskMohawk - Cool! I'll definitely have to check it out seeing as people keep mentioning it :)
