Rule clarification for Pask in Punisher

Hello Brothers,

Another question, yet again. This time I'm asking the Veterans for a rule clarification on the functionalities of Pask. I just had a game with my friend and his CSM and we were at a loss for how his Gatling Gun worked.

E.g.

Roll x20 dice, 3s to hit re-rolling 1's.

Say 16 hits after re-rolls.

Now, to penetrate a vehicle.

Step 1: Roll 16 dice.

Step 2: Re-roll 1's

Step 3: Look for 6's

Step 4: Confusion...

Say I roll 5 6's after re-rolls (ignore probabilities). Now what? Shred indicates that I get +D3 per 6 to my penetration roll. Now, does this mean I roll 5D3? Say, get a result of 8. Now, is this 8+5 = 13? So failing to glance a LR but penning most otehr vehicles?

If that's the case, is the maximum number of HP's I can take off a vehicle 1 per shooting phase?

Please, if any of you vets can clarify that would be glorious.

Cheers,

Pask has rending not shred. Rending allows an extra d3 on rolls of 6. So s5 weapon plus 6 on your armour penetration plus a d3 roll for each roll of 6. So to glance a land raider you would need to roll a 6 and a 3 with makes 9 plus s5 which is a av of 14 equals a glance. If my memory serves me correctly.

Ok so you hit the vehicle 16 times.

Roll 16 dice for armour penetration.  Do not reroll 1's (preferred enemy is for to hit and to wound rolls only not armour penetration).

Any 6's from these keep seperate and add 1d3 to each 6's total.

Each hit is equal to 5 (str of gun) + armour pen rolled, + 1d3 if it was a rend.

So say for example you shot up a landraider.

16 hits, 5 of which are rends.

Ignore the non-rends as they don't have the strength to glance.

Of those 5, 2 get 3 on their d3, making them strength 14 (5+6+3)

Congratulations, 2 glances on a landraider.

Each shot is it's own possibility to strip a hullpoint or penetrate.  So your potential maximum shooting a punisher cannon is 20 vehicle hullpoints.  Attacks with better AP (2 or 1) get an increase on the damage table, allowing them to outright destroy vehicles in a single shot potentially.

Yes, apologies, I meant rending not shred.

Thank you for the replies gentlemen, much appreciated! The cinematic of the Gatling gun ripping holes into a Landraider rendering it useless is pretty cool...

And thank you for the penetration clarification - I suppose that would be a tad OP.

Battle report coming soon!

GW clarified this via an FAQ recently. You roll to Hit, then get your dice and roll to Pen. Take each 6 and roll a D3 for each, then add the D3 to the D6 roll. Any successes go to one side, the D3s are discarded, and the initial dice that failed to get a 6 are added to the pool of dice that failed to Pen on the D3. These are then re-roll as per the initial roll.

Easier to demonstrate than explain, but GW did at least clarify an awkward ruling for once. :P
